Being female I feel a bit sad I even have to ask this, but as I find more grumpy people tend to be female.
When I get in a bad mood, I don't make everyone around me too scared to breathe...why does someone feel the need to jump on even the most trivial comment and turn it so you feel like being swallowed into the ground?

In relation to one comment, I am a peacemaker and like to make people laugh....I try and say nice things like "food smells great" and the reply is "I have to do everything here!!", I offer to help and get told "NO!", I help out with something else and get told "just get out of the way!!" I keep out of the way and she comes "hunting".......Um I am trying to be friends.. really I am.

Unfortunately, that's what people like that live for. They're really not happy unless they're making everyone else miserable. I've had to work with a few people like that, and it's a nightmare. You always feel like you have to walk on eggshells. There's really no winning with them. Just do your best and try to tune them out when you can. Actually, it really seems to tick them off when you're happy and smiling, so be your sweet and smiling self, and ruin THEIR day!

yes. It is in the nature of the "grumpy persons" personality. But you can make these persons' friendlier by showing gratitiude for every good deed or word or just a considerate moment. It is like an old saying do onto others even when the other is in a bad mood or share a laugh with a grumpy person and see the other side of his offensive character. Try the factory floor in production. So many moods that change in each person from day to day. The best people are consistently nice and always there are some who are good friends but the ones who have a difficult time during the work day may have other problems. Patience and understanding is the most important thing to remember even with mean nasty personalitys try to be nice to these people. No I am not mr. nice guy. But I am considerate or try to be anyway

I just had to laugh when I read what you wrote, not that its "funny", but because I feel exactly the same way!!!! I have also noticed that women are far more grumpier than men. I don't understand it. I am a very happy person. Even if I am going through some tough times, emotional, or otherwise, I do not take it out on anyone and I am still very friendly and happy toward others. No matter what. I want them to know that I am happy to talk to them. Or, I am happy to have seen them today, or what ever the case may be. Its just sad when, no matter what you say or do, you still get such a negative response!!!!

Well, don't give up on how nice you seem to be - believe me that is just precious! And rare. Its worth it to continue to be who you are and still be that happy person even if no one else around you seems to be. Don't you think it is refreshing when you meet someone who doesn't complain about anything and everything, someone who is happy about stuff - anything!??? I sure do!

I think that women get a bad rap in this grumpy label. A man can be 'stern', 'forbidding', 'distant', 'curt', yada yada yada. A woman is 'grumpy', and no doubt it's that time of the month, too. To me, there seems to be less tolerance for women being less than happy.

Off the soapbox, people who are not happy, either at that moment or for longer periods of time, don't want to hear anything of anyone else's happiness. Misery loves company, and all that. I am sure though, that you know several men who fit the B.O.B. description - bitter ol' bastard - and seem to revel in making others as unhappy.

So to answer your question (I hope) I think that the people you are feeling this from are unhappy and spreading the wealth. Try to stay away from them. They work hard to bring you down.

They don't have to make others miserable but you know the saying "misery loves company"

Instead of griping about grumps, try to cheer one up.

A smile goes a long way!

Cranky people like to "vent" -& it's usually upon the first unfortunate person who happens to cross their path. DON'T let them take it out on YOU. If they can complain- then you can ignore it. I KNOW that's not easy. -But look at it THIS way; it could be WORSE- they could be YOU. Just feel sorry for them, listen politely (for as long as you can stand it)- & then leave them alone to suffer in silence.
