I had a rotator cuff injury about two yrs ago. Still have some problems but much better than before surgery. Be sure to get some rehab afterward.

"Impingement syndrome" is so vague it is meaningless. What tissue(s) is impinged and what structure is impinging it??? And WHY is that structure causing impingement. If your doctor cannot clearly answer these questions (and clearly, with pictures, describe the impingement and its cause) you should RUN for the door and find a qualified doctor to assess your condition. There is nothing worse than a failed surgery.

Best wishes and good luck.
