It depends on what they do. My mother was banned from the community and they actually filled out a death certificate for her. Her husband kept the children and there wasn't any contact allowed. She lost her family and friends and way of life so she left the state and started her life anew (then came my father and eventually me). Of course this was back in the early '60's. Perhaps things have changed since then.
