You should have a winch (at least 10,000 lbs). If not a winch, be sure to have "tow points". If you do not have tow points, they can be added to your vehicle and they are not that expensive. When using a cable, it is best that you place something on the cable, such as a jacket, so that if the cable snaps it won't fly back and hit someone. I would not recommend using a rope, as some ropes will not hold up to the force of pulling another vehicle. You can however use "tow straps" which is made of heavy, sturdy, strong nylon and much harder to break than rope.

Depends on what type of vehicles you plan on recovering. The best idea is to have a winch bumper installed, and get a winch that allows you to slide it into a tow hitch receiver, that way you can tow from either end of your vehicle. Be sure that when using any recovery gear that the vehicles don't move until everyone is away from the area as cables, ropes, chains etc. are under high tension when extracting a mired vehicle, and can cause serious injury and death.

The first things you need are factory tow hooks front and rear that are bolted to the frame with grade 8 bolts. The next is a simple 20 foot tow strap with loops, not hooks, on both ends in the 20,000lb strength range. A good quality D-ring can also be a handy item to have. Hook a loop into your tow hook and take it slow and easy pulling on the other vehicle. My rule of thumb for the other vehicle was always to let the owner hook to their vehicle, this will release you from the liability of them saying you hooked it up wrong if you tear something up on their vehicle while pulling them out. If you have to hook to them because they know nothing about their ride, then make sure they know that you are not responsible for anything that breaks! Good luck!

A winch is the best way to do it...that way you dont damage your or the other car with the jerk involved with starting a pull.. you can get an adapter that attaches to your (if you have one ) receiver hitch also.. i would be leery in such a new jeep with plastic trim and ropes or cables attached to it if the cable moves it can rip the plastic right off your bumper

Believe it or not what you just asked is a huge amount of information to answer. What I recommend is you pick up this book:

The 4 Wheelers Bible by Jim Allen.

This book is the most loaded source of offroading info you'll find anywhere (including 50 pages on winching and towing).

There are many catalogs that sell that crap. Order a Acme catalog online it's free and they have what your looking for, if not do a search for Jeep catalogs on google or yahoo. - JK
