Back in October, I had a deep cavity in one of my bottom teeth and the dentist was not sure if we could get by without a root canal. She just filled it and that seemed to do the trick, but it was a very deep filling. Every once in a while it is sensitive, but no pain. Now 6 months later, I have a puss filled bump on the side of it but with no pain at all - not even sensitivity right now. I can eat, tapping the tooth doesn't hurt, and no temperature sensitivity. Have popped the abscess several times with a sterile pin and it has drained a few times, but fills right up again.
My question is, do I have any chance of escaping this without a root canal? I should probably go to the dentist right away, huh?

CHRISTY,

THIS TOOTH WILL NEED DEFINITE ATTENTION. THE PUS COULD BE FROM THE GUMS OR THE TOOTH ITSELF. THE ABCESS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING. SEE A DENTIST A.S.A.P.

So im no doctor but you wont need it pulled out! It might be a jaw infection or just with the tooth. Getting around a root canal would be very difficult but it can been done in the back. The tooth really needs attention. The infection is caused by the root of the tooth then it can spread from tooth to tooth. It could also spread down to your jaw. I know it doesnt hurt you but this needs attention. Dont put it off. Your dentist might suggest Apico surgery but maybe not because its more difficult in the back. JUST GO TO YOUR REGULAR DENTIST. If they dont know, they will suggest you to an Endodontic

Yes, you should go to the dentist ASAP! You could very well need a round of antibiotics too. I had an abscess that looked like half a pea on my gum, but it was painful. After about a month, we had to pull it, it was too far gone to do a root canal. Good luck, I hope your tooth turns out OK!

yes you need to see a dentist, but in the meantime swish with salt water, and swish with peroxide. 2 or 3 times a day. it will definitly help.

duh!! you could have infection of the jaw and risk having surgery of the bone!! a root canal is a minor operation compared to jaw surgery!

cavities can lead to infection of the jaw, it can even lead to rheumatic heart disease wherein the infection goes down to your heart and affect the valves. just because of a bad tooth!!!

go to the dentist NOW!!!! HAVE THAT TEETH REMOVED...it's cheaper in the long run and safer also!
