Beaches at Krabi and Phangka is the most beautiful places in Thailand such as Maya Island,Similan Islands. You can travel by plane to Krabi from Bangkok,it costs 2500 bahts only. more information at www.thai-tour.com for hotels and residents. Kho chang,I ever visited there, not too much nice, believe me.

Nicest Places In Thailand

I prefer northern thailand for "cultural" experience but no beaches there. 2 sides for you to choose - Gulf and Similan. Islands in gulf (Eastern region) like Ko Chang (maybe a bit too busy) and Ko Kood (yes, this is quieter) are great. 4 hours from Bangkok. If travel south (south-west), islands off Prachuap Kiri-Khan are quiet too. If further off to Chumpon, you may even cover both sides of beaches (ie Gulf and Similan). Unless you want to go really south - then you'll have Ko Nangyuan (beautiful, only handfull of chalets/rooms) Ko Tao.... or Similan Island / Surin Island on the Similan side. There is this Koh Khao that is just 10 min off the mainland (30min north of Khao Lak). As there are fishing villages on mainland, so you may get some "cultural" experience too... hmmm so much to tell. Check out the many websites/forums....

My favorite place in Thailand (other than Chaing Mai) was Had Thian on Koh Pangang. The famous Full Moon Party's go on at Had Rin on Koh Panang, but you can take a boat to Had Thian. The only way to get to this beautiful beach is by beach or by hiking over the mountain. There are no cars and plenty of bungalows to stay in. We did the hike to Had Rin one day to spend the day there and, although challenging, it wasn't that hard. I wouldn't recommend doing it with anything heavier than a bottle of water though! Anyways, that was my favorite beach....definitly the most relaxing!

Well, you have quite a subjective question to answer and also not easy. Most beach resorts are mostly for western tourists and are going to be devoid of any culture. Though you can still experience the thai hospitality during your stay.

You did not state when you will be traveling, and this might impact on the place where you can stay. For example, during the months of May-Oct, islands on the eastern side can be subjected to storms. Then again, weather is never conclusive.

You might want to take a look at this site and if you like, you can contact me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com if you have further query : http://www.koh-chang.com/

This place should be just what you want.

attempt the two Koh Chang or Koh Samed, the two are east of Bangkok approximately 3 to 4 and 0.5 hours Koh Chang being farther away close to the Cambodia border. the two has advantageous hotels no longer as populated as Phuket, Phi Phi or Koh Samui. in simple terms goggle inn Koh Chang or Koh Samed for hotels on the islands.
