how do i stop tasks that are still running on my computer?

hit the control, alt, and delete keys at the same time (referred in shorthand as CTRL+ALT+DEL)
then, go to the task manager, choose the program to end, and click end process. if it does not immediately end, (this is normal for windows...unfortunately), then wait a couple of moments and try again. you may need to restart the computer.

It does of course depend on your operating system. In windows Xp press ctrl alt delete and end all tasks in task manager

Press Alt, control and delete at the same time.
