hypocritical would be for an avid atheist to pray in private.
to utter a generic phrase which has become part of our every day vernacular is not hypocritical

It's not at all hypocritical. Is it hypocritical if someone supports gun control but still uses the expression 'a shot in the dark'?
Incidentally, it's 'atheist', not 'athiest'.

I have atheists friends who do say things like that. I see how someone could think its hypocritical, but I don't think most of them think into it so far as that because its a very common phrase.
I am not atheist though, I'm a Christian and honestly dislike the phrase strongly.

I've heard people say Thursday before too. That's a reference to the Norse god Thor. Isn't that hypocritical of you? Or is just part of our common language? Yeah, I bet that's it.

How is it hypocritcial? A name is just a name. Oh my god is a normal expression. It in know way validates the imaginary god when somebody that does not believe says it.

It's spelled ATHEISTS not athiests for the nth time!!
And I never say 'Oh my God'. The atheists who do don't mean it literally. It's just a casual phrase.
Do the people who say 'Holy ****' worship that?

Oh, if you think that one's fun, you should play with "God dammit." An atheist who doesn't believe such a god exists shouldn't have a reason to use it, but a believer thinks it would be a sin to say it. So how did it come into our language?
And yes, I say "Oh my God" and "bless you." To me, it's just a phrase.

Yes. It means nothing unless you believe in your god. Its just an exclamation. Words. Nothing more.
Remember the old saying from when you were a kid.... "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me." Well you Christians take words much too deeply to heart.

Yea since alot of atheists are brainwashed from being a toddler to the end of their lives. Hard to shake that off for some atheists. I still say goddamn. Got a problem with that one?

Everybody says it, so it kind of lost its meaning, and turned into something people say. It's not hypocritical, it's just a common phrase.
