Please, please, please don't take opiates to get high. They work great for controlling pain, but if you're not in pain they make you feel sort of numb and euphoric. A good feeling...at first. Then as the days wear on into weeks, the weeks into months, you find yourself still taking them when you have no real pain. After a while, you get used to the dosage you're on and decide to increase the dose yourself. Constantly chasing the monster. (but it's really chasing you)
One day, you'll wake up feeling crappy, you've run out of pills, can't get anymore, then the real fun begins...detox from an opiate addiction is one of the hardest things you'll ever do. Not only is the withdrawal psychological, but physical, as well. Some of the worst physical pain you will experience.

It feels very good and that is why so many become addicted. They can take away your pain and give you an overall good feeling. Can give you extra energy as well. It depends on the drug you take. Heroin can make any problem no matter how big seem minimal. But that is not a good thing. Problems need to be dealt with not hidden. The drug the other poster is talking about is not a new drug. It is called buprenorphine and has been around for a long time but has within the last few years been approved for narcotic addiction as an alternative to methadone. I participated in the clinical trials for this drug three times between 1994+2000.It is being marketed in two forms. Subutex which is a monotherapy drug containing just the buprenorphine and suboxone which is a combination drug containing the bupe and naloxone which is an antagonist. If you were to take the suboxone and use another opiate you would become sick enough to wish death. It is to opiates what antabuse is to alcohol.

Rent trainspotting - the movie has a realistic portrayal of opiate use. If you are an addict check out http://www.na.org/
Assuming you are using it for pain management, opiates will take off the intensity of the pain and make it easier to bear. To some people it feels a little like being drunk but without the loss of coordination. Some people feel lethargic, and emotionally numb while others can function normally and may even find it to be a mild stimulant (by this point they are likely addicted).
Modern pharmaceutical opiates are very powerful... but be careful the more effective they are in treating the pain, the easier it is to become addicted to them because of their potency. Only take as prescribed and communicate with your physician regularly to ensure you are taking a medically responsible dosage.

Lots of energy. No pain. I am addicted to opiates. I started taking them to get up in the morning. I was pretty depressed. My life now, is a total freakin nightmare three years later. I have been consumed by the ****. I have an appointment to be put on a new drug called suboxyen Wednesday. I don't recommend that you find out.

I don't know what it feels like to do a lot like most people do to get high. However, I have smoked opium before and it put me in a trance. I laid in the same spot and stared at the ceiling for 2 hours.
Anyway, I do take opiate pain meds and well it all depends on a lot of different things. First of all, it varies from person to person. Second, it depends on what you're doing. For example, if I am sitting at my desk at my day job and take a percocet or a vicodin, I get kinda sleepy. However, if I take one at my night job (waiting tables) I get really hyper and happy. It acts almost like speed. And finally, it all depends on how much you take and what you take. For example, I'm sure heroin (never touched it, never will) would knock me on my @$$, but something very weak like Darvocet, I barely feel.

I think you should try all of them together in high doses. And I bet if you consume a lot of alcohol and strangle yourself to the point of passing out (hang yourself in the closet while wearing a batman costume), the high would be phenominal!! And if it doesn't work, then you will have done a favor to society and given all of the rest of us just a little more oxygen to breath.
