There are good and bad schools all over the place. I grew up in the north and believe me, there are some terrible schools. Kids graduating high school that can read maybe at a 7th grade level. There are some good schools in Florida. For instance Navarre schools are good. I don't think that you need to worry about it. If you are in one of the better ones, and you excel in your academics you will get scholarships.

I commend you for recognizing that your future is linked through a well grounded education.

I am assuming this is the International Baccalaureate program. From what I read the program is in internationally recognized educational program designed to help young students to stretch their knowledge and learning skills so that they can attain the very best education and be eligible to attend the very best colleges.

If you want to find out if living in Florida is a hindrance to you educationally, find out where graduates of your IBO program are accepted to which colleges. You should find colleges like Harvard, Carnegie-Mellon, Georgetown, Stanford, Swarthier, Rice, Dartmouth, Northwestern, University of Chicago, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke, Johns-Hopkins, Cornell, Washington University at St. Louis, Brown, New York University. If students having finished your schools IBO program are getting into these notch schools the you can relax and know that you are getting a good education.

Study Study And study some more. But also remember that universities are looking for well round students. Do some volunteer work, join some extracurricular clubs. Don't forget about studying for the SAT as well.

Good Luck and enjoy your HS years....

Yes, quite honestly, it will make you live "dumber", I live in California, the 48th lowest ranking state insofar as education standards go, and when I meet people out of state I can tell that they look down on me and dumb down everything that they say until I blow them out of the water with some crazy AP monomania. It makes going to colleeg anywhere difficult, but really only if you follow the base or remedial progeram in high school. The valedeictorian scholarship just goes to the #1 student because they did the best given the same sets of conditions as every one else at their school, and that deserves recognition, no matter where the school is, as consideration is wrought from school to school. The way to egt the scholarship is to get the highest GPA at your highschool, do an un-necessarily high amount of community service, apply for the scholarship using fastweb.com and then wait for the letter. IB, as AP, is based on a national exam, and thus a national cirriculum, as you are learning to the test. The program, while restricted by the poor education that students had recieved prior to acceptance into the program is typically nominal after the first year of enrollment and is surprisingly not very harsh to begin with. The best way to get the most out of the program is to do everything that your teachers advise you to do as they tell you if not sooner and get all of the test prep books that you can bear to scrupulate without suffering an anneurism. The best way to become a more intelligent person through his program is to learn how to teach by watching your teachers teach that you find generally ebtter teachers from time to ime and making sure to not overload yourself until the very end, as it will destroy your propensity to grow to be able to accept heavier loads down the road. While I only had the opportunity to take AP classes I took 32 AP semesters and the greatest thing that I drew from them was the ability to learn, and the ability to teach,a nd both of those mean mastering the art of listening.
