I went to a concert that my drum teacher was playing last night, but he was acting very awkward and strange. He had asked me to come and told me about it several times beforehand, and he and I have a friendly relationship that is different from most students and teachers. I've been taking lessons with him for almost 2 years and he's only 9 yrs older than I am (I'm 19, he's 28). When I saw him after the show, he gave me a hug and then I introduced him to my friend and he ignored her presence for the rest of the time. I talked to him a bit, but he was acting weird and being awkward with everyone. He didn't introduce people by name, which was strange. I was a little confused and frustrated, so when he said he needed to go start packing up his drums, I started to leave, and he said "wait, are you leaving?" and then said "make sure you come say bye to me before you go, I'll be on stage." We stayed a bit longer while he was packing, but he kept glancing over at me every minute or so.

I thought it was weird because he didn't seem to want to talk to me, yet he seemed like he was happy I was there or something. He had previously gotten upset because at his last show, I hadn't stayed after to talk to him. After I was frustrated enough, I decided it was time to go (I stayed after for about an hour) and as we were walking towards the stage, he decided to acknowledge my presence again and scream my name from the stage. After that, I was really confused and just said I was leaving and that was the end. I just don't understand why he was acting like this after he wanted me to come and was confused/upset why I hadn't come to say hi to him after his last show. I'm also supposed to go to my next lesson on Wednesday, and I'm scared its going to be awkward and I don't know what to do. He has another show on Friday, but I'm not sure if i should go. Any insight would help. thanks

just to clarify, he doesn't drink any alcohol, he's very concerned with being healthy and whatnot, so only water for him.

(1) Do you think he's interested in you romantically? This isn't clear from your writing, but seems like it might be the case. Would complicate matters because of his status as your teacher, and the age difference (a little bit). Not impossible, of course, but makes it a little dicey.
(2) Does he do any recreational drugs, or drink a bit more than usual? This is common, unfortunately, and can make people's behavior erratic. If you think he does these things, steer clear of him personally unless you do too, or have a burning desire to get involved with someone with substance issues.
(3) He's at a gig, which means he may just be keyed up, but I'm betting that either 1 or 2 is happening (or both) or he'd be much more cool.

Good luck!

sounds very iffy. it really depends on how you see him. but it sounds like you respect the student/teacher relationship you have with him, so don't break that bond. the best thing i can tell you is talk to him. ask him about everything. don't be afraid to communicate with him. just relax and stay calm, because if he likes you, which sounds like he does, he would expect things to progress, but you don't want that to happen. it's important to let him know how you feel and how he makes you feel. be honest.

Obviously he likes you. the question is, do you like him?

If you're not interested, tell him now even if it might hurt him, it's better to do it now. He's a grwon man, he should be able to take it. If however, you like him too but you're not ready, tell him also. It won't be so bad. If you like him, proceed with caution. Trust your instincts.
