Just wondering because I can't get to a dentist until the 25th, and i have an abscess tooth. I am on penicillin right now, but there's a bitter taste in my mouth, and i know it's coming from my tooth. Will it hurt me if i swallow it?

JEREMY,

THE CONTENT OF THE HYDROCHLORIC ACID IN THE STOMACH WILL EASILY DESTROY ANY BACTERIA YOU MAY SWALLOW. PENICILLIN WILL BE EFFECTIVE FOR SOME BACTERIA BUT NOT ALL BUGS. SEE THE DENTIST A.S.A.P.

Well, it won't be good for you, but it probably won't be all that harmful either since the infection is already present in your body. Swallowing someone ELSE's pus is never ever a good idea, of course.

You can reduce the intrusiveness of the problem by carrying a little bottle of mouthwash like Listerine and washing out your mouth frequently. That will not only mask the flavour, it'll also kill off bacteria that may cause more problems elsewhere.
