Easy way is: At the front of your head grab about 4 inch wide by 1 inch depth of hair, take that chunk of hair and pinch in together at the top of your head, about 3 inch away from your hair line, push that chunk of hair forward to get that puff, take your bobby pin and place two pins in one on either side of the pinch.
Put all your hair up in a pony tail other than the chunk of hair.
once your hair is in a pony tail take another elastic and take the chunk of hair that kept out of the pony tail and carefully include the chunk of hair in the second elastic band

So you have one pony tail and two elastics first elastic the pony tail second elastic the pony tail and the chunk, this way you are not pulling the puff flat.

Second way is to put your hair in a pony tail, grab a chunk of hair from the front of your head partially out of the pony tail, take the puff and perfect it with bobby pins.

Here are the basic steps:
* STEP 1: The “half-up” updo works best if your hair is at least shoulder length. Some layering in the hair adds interest, but isn’t necessary.
* STEP 2: For best results, you should attempt this updo on hair that is clean but not freshly washed. Squeaky clean hair will likely be too slippery to stay put, so wash your hair the night before or, for an evening event, simply restyle your hair from its day style without re-washing.
* STEP 3: On dry hair, brush your hair straight back with a Mason Pearson or bristle brush (see resources). Make sure there are no tangles in your hair. If your hair is a little frizzy you can distribute a small dab of shine serum through your hair to tame the frizz.
* STEP 4: Use the brush to back comb the top layers of your hair. Don’t over do it—you’re just creating a light cushion and a little lift at the roots.
* STEP 5: Smooth this back-combed hair with the brush until the top layers are smooth again but the light cushioning remains. To avoid undoing the cushion in this updo, simply skim the top hair back off your face and don’t brush all the way to the scalp.
* STEP 6: Now grab a section of hair at each temple and sweep it back off the face. Use a barrette or a small elastic to secure the hair at the back of the head. In reality, this hairstyle is more like ¼ up and ¾ down. To keep it looking trendy, don’t sweep too much back off the face—just the very top layers.
* STEP 7: If you’re hair is layered, pull out a few pieces around the face to create soft wisps to complete this updo.

Pull out your bangs from the rest of your hair. From the back, start backcombing them a big, starting at the base. Once they're semi sticking straight up, pull them back and slightly comb the front, so it loks smooth. As you bobby pin them into place push them forwards a little so there's a little puff, and then pin them. Use a slight bit of hairspray on the side you backcombed before you pin them back to make sure they stay in place it you like. Hope this makes the slightest bit of sense.!

No offense but why would you want that 'cute' puff? I don't think it looks very good but I suppose you just push your hair up a bit while you have it up in a pony tail.

Put your hair in a ponytail and use a pick comb to pull up gently in the crown area to get the "puff."

No. they did no longer. maximum women people had short, permed hair. toddlers wore ponytails each so often, however the form wasn't relatively that for the duration of style. Sideways ponytails did no longer relatively start up til the 80's.

Take the section of hair where you bangs should be and put them to the side than put your hair up in a regular ponytail. After your hair is up, pull the section of bangs back (poof as high as you want) and fasten it with a bobby pin.

the best way to do it with a ponytail is to pull the amount of hair you want in the "quiff" up and push it forward, pin it up and put the rest of your hair in a ponytail. I use bobby pins to hold it or cute hair clips;)

Tie your hair regularly. Then, instead of putting the band close to your head, put it 1 in. away your head. After, push the band close to your head! And Voila!
