I use to be like this...I would walk in a resturant and if people started laughing I would think they were laughing at me...I got put on some meds and it helps along with some counceling...I got off the meds about 7 months ago and things have been fine...But I have different outlook on life now as well and that can always help...Say whats on your mind and stop worring so much about what other people think of you and be happy with yourself...Its hard enough for us to do that. And remember most people are worried to much about themselves to be talking about you all the time. Good luck with this...Oh and you can probably find a support group online. Its a type of anxiety/paranoia.

Matt, Don't listen to some of these answers. They are very generic. I have the same problem. Its not just something you can "get over" as some of the responders stated. I am a pretty normal guy..im not too bad looking, i have a great job and some good stuff going for me. My problem is that my head can sometimes be consumed with anxiety. This anxiety is often felt around people such as coworkers, random strangers and even long time friends and family members! It sux, i know. I often think that people are talking about me, in both good and bad ways, but mostly bad. Once I get a thought of that sort into my head, it "bounces" around, getting bigger and soon after that thought will cripple my ability to think and interact properly. I bet that you experience some other difficulties too, such as some depression, other anxiety, "loud" thoughts and frequent daydreaming. Do not listen to people when they say "get over it", or "everyone feels like that". No, everybody doesn't. Everybody may have these emotions once in awhile, but it is not the same. The way you feel probably makes you feel handicaped in your day-to-day life and activities. I have been on many med's and seen various doctors. I wish I had the answer, but I don't. I can tell you that when you start feeling that again, remember:How often do you talk about people? Probably not that much. And if or when you do, are you REALLY close to them to the point where they could hear you or think that you might be talking about them? I would say this, do some research on a good psychiatrist around your area. Find a reputable one who is appropriate given your age. Also, don't drink or do drugs. That will worsen your problem a great deal more.

AHH, I have the same problem! It is paranoia. I always ask people if they were talking about me, and they are always like No...And I also think that everyone that passes me in school is looking at me for some reason, even if they really aren't. Talk to a doctor or psychologist. They are sure to help you. ^_^

I have different answers for you:
If you are a teenager, that is part of life. Everyone during these years thinks that everyone is talking about them and sees every stumble, open zipper, or pimple. They don't. They are too busy worrying about their own stumbles, open zippers, and pimples to notice your imperfections.
If you are an adult, then you may need to seek the help of a mental health professional, if this is truly hindering your quality of life. It sounds as if you are not really comfortable in your own skin and need to work on liking yourself regardless.
p.s. the part about other people being more worried about themselves than you is really true for adults, too.

The was a '60s musician--he's still alive & well today--
by the name of Harry Nillson. One his biggest hits, (in
1969, I believe it was), was "Everybody's Talking at Me".
Call the request-line of your favorite local radio station.
I'm sure they'll be glad to play it for you.
Here are the lyrics, so you'll be able to sing along with
him. Harry? Take it away!
"Everybody's talking at me. I don't hear a word they're
saying. Only the echoes of my mind. People stopping, staring. I can't see their faces. Only the shadows of
their eyes.
"I'm going where the sun keeps shining, though the
pouring rain. Going where the weather suits my clothes.
Backing off of the North East wind, sailing on summer
breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.
"I'm going where the sun keeps shining, through the
pouring rain. Going where the weather suits my clothes.
"Backing off of the North East wind, sailing on summer
breeze. And skipping over the ocean like a stone."
Thanks, Harry. Much obliged.
And as for you, the teen-ager who asked the question,
I've got just 5 more words for you: Good luck and take
care.

your life is not that important of that interesting. Don't be so self involved. Who cares if people are talking about you. Just enjoy your life and stop worrying.
