Catholics believe God is a Holy Trinity.

The doctrine of the Holy Trinity states there is one true God who is made up of three separate but equal persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

So a statue of Jesus is a statue of God. God became a human being in Jesus Christ and now we can depict Him as a human (although no one really knows what he looked like).

We have no statues of God the Father or God the Holy Spirit. Although the Holy Spirit may be symbolized by a flying dove or a flame.

With love in Christ.

We cannot make a likeness of someone or something when we don't know what it looks like. That is why Catholic Churches, any Christian Church for that matter, do not contain any likenesses of God the Father.

Jesus, on the other hand, does have a likeness. He is as much a physical person every bit as He is the spiritual God. Since God took on a visible human form in Jesus Christ, it is okay to make likenesses of Jesus.

People don't call the statue God, but we do call Jesus God because that's Who He is. God the Son, second Divine Person of the Most Holy Trinity. He spent His entire public life on earth doing things only God could do.

In the Catholic faith Jesus is God (fully God and fully human, part of the Trinity). God the father never came in human form how do you have a statue of a spirit with no form?

The person above that says Jesus is not God is completely wrong on Catholic theology. I would have them go back to the early Councils on the dogma of Jesus.

No one knows what God really looks like, in his "essential" state of spiritual existence.

God chose to reveal himself to us in the flesh image of Jesus, his only begotten son.

Jesus is true God and true man.

Hence, when we view an image of Jesus, we can begin to understand the mystery of God's own existence, even while we still remain here alive, on this earth.

No Christian would ever mistake a statue for God, because ever since Jesus came to us in the flesh, we truly know what God looks like, and who he really is.
