and ever since that side of my mouth has been hurting around the gum line. I got it filled last Wednesday. What do you think is wrong with it?

Nothing, the gum is just bruised. Give it a little more time.

I had this problem before and it was because the dentist slipped and cut my gums with the tool he was using. You may need to rinse your mouth with salt water in case you have an infection but if it doesn't get better within a few days of doing that or if it gets worse or you run a fever call your doctor. Hope that helps. :)

Around the gumline, if it is not refered pain it could jsut be trauma to the gum, sometimes the dentist pullsthe gum away from the tooth to work on it. It can be real painful until it adheres back into place.

I would call the dentist - maybe they drilled along your gum line or poked it accidentally. Better to check though... Maybe they didn't fill it in enough and you have some tooth exposed. Ouch, nothing like tooth pain. I feel for you!

Your gums have been irritated by the procedure - just like your knee would be irritated if you scraped it on concrete. Take it easy on the tender area for awhile and it will heal. No tortilla chips.

It could be an overhanged filling or just irritated gums.

ALLISON,

THE DENTIST MAY HAVE USED A RUBBER DAM WHICH NEEDS METAL CLAMPS TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THESE CLAMPS OFTEN TIMES CONTACT THE GUMS OF THE TOOTH. THIS WILL FEEL BETTER WITHIN A FEW DAYS. DON'T WORRY.
