It's been reviewed as a decent lens. The major advantage over buying a Nikon 18-200 (for instance and if you could find one) is that it has vibration reduction in the lens. The Tamron is about half the price, though.

Rockwell is kind of lukewarm on the lens, though:

I had the Tamron 28-200 for several years as a walk around lens on a Nikon 6006. It was just OK. I used it for snapshots, but not serious stuff. It developed a click sound when focusing, then got run over by a car. (I'm not saying the two things were related, lol!)
I have another Tamron that I like quite a bit, the 19-35 f/3.5-4.5.
I wouldn't be afraid to buy a Tamron, but if I could I'd get the Nikon instead.

I've owned a few Tamron lenses including the 28-75 XR DI, 17-35 Di and most recently the 28-200 XR which was used to shoot this entire gallery of Prague:

In general - the Tamron lenses are pretty decent optically, but their build quality is so-so. I have the 28-200 as a travel lens which won't break the bank if it gets stolen or damaged, but in general, I prefer the durability of the Canon gear (so normally I would carry the 24-70L and the 70-200L IS instead of the Tamron - of course at a huge cost difference). The 18-200 is probably okay (but probably not as good as the 28-200) and you can go here to check out samples:

Good luck and have fun!
