The Persians were conquered.
That is how all Muslims became that way initially, either that or they got tired of paying the Jizya (tax to remain alive as a non-Muslim). After that, all offspring are immediately Muslim by their law and can be condemned if they want to change religions. How else can 100% of people all be the same religion? Certainly not by choice.

Before the Persians became Muslims they worshiped the Moon and the Sun. They had many Gods. Then they were conquered and took on the beliefs of Muslims and Islam. What you say is correct. Arabs and Persians refer to Persians as Non-Arabs. Nobody thinks Persians are Arabs because they are not, they are Persian and speak Farsi as apposed to Arabic. Most speak Arabic and English as well, but Farsi is their language...
It's not that they hate each other but there definitely is some animosity between them. They are different and take pride in it..Persians want to differentiate themselves between the Arabs, and Arabs do the same...Almost like Canada and America...

In prior times the Iranians (Persians) were followers of Zoroastrianism (the ode to this belief was the famous Thus Spoke Zarathustra, used in 2001) who were engaged in war with the Byzzantine (Roman Catholic) Empire based out of Constantinpole (Istambul) and they suffered a tremendous defeat.
Then the Arab and Iraqi armies of the Islamic Caliphe invaded Iran, defeating the already beaten and depleted PErsian forces and their Chinese allies, and the Islamics took over from approx 750 AD to 950 AD when the Turks invaded and took control.
That (750-800 AD) is when they were converted from Zarathustranism to Islam.
Zarathustrums were considerd non beleivers or Infidels, as opposed to the Romans who had a diety.

Sadly, the muslims attacked the persians and bullied them into accepting islam. The native religon of the persians, Zoroastrianism and persian polytheism were wiped out almost completely. The muslims persecuted the few ones that remained :(
Its a sad story, same thing happened to Europe too.... the original followers of the religion were slaughtered and killed completely off.
the good news is, many persians in Iran are trying to reclaim Zoroastrianism. Zoroaster was a great prophet, very wise person.

Like anyone else, some chose it. Any then peer pressure in a given clique (say, for example, Persians) kicked in.
You should ask this question about why people choose ANY religion if you can step back and look at the big picture.

They just accepted Islam, they were never forced to because If they were nowadays nothing is forcing them to keep their religion, they're still Muslims.

Wasn't Mohammad a warrior, he took over many tribes and forced them to become muslims...
BTW: people don't choose their religion...it is forced upon them by their parents...and their society...
