When the temperature of ASPARTAME exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in ASPARTAME coverts to formaldehyde and then to formic acid, which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. (Formic acid is the poison found in the sting of fire ants).
The methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis; thus people were being diagnosed with having multiple sclerosis in error. The multiple sclerosis is not a death sentence, where methanol toxicity is.
In the case of systemic lupus, we are finding it has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers.
Also, with methanol toxicity, the victims usually drink three to four 12 oz. Cans of them per day, some even more.
Here is the problem.
There were Congressional Hearings when ASPARTAME was included in 100 different products.
Since this initial hearing, there have been two subsequent hearings, but to no avail. Nothing has been done. The drug and chemical lobbies have very deep pockets.
Now there are over 5,000 products containing this chemical, and the PATENT HAS EXPIRED!!!!! At the time of this first hearing, people were going blind.
The methanol in the ASPARTAME converts to formaldehyde in the retina of the eye.
Formaldehyde is grouped in the same class of drugs as cyanide and arsenic - DEADLY POISONS!!! Unfortunately, it just takes longer to quietly kill, but it is killing people and causing all kinds of neurological problems.

There's mixed information on whether or not some artificial sweeteners cause cancer. This came about because of results with lab rats. They did develop cancer, BUT only after they'd been pumped full of much more of the sweetener multiple times than most adults would normally consume. As to Splenda- I've had it (and others) several times. The taste isn't much different, and I haven't had stomach problems because of any of them.

Those kinds of broad statements are usually about eating natural instead of artificial foods.
Although I have heard that as far as health effects, sugar is better for you than Aspartame.
Splenda has taken some fire lately for acting like it's just as good as sugar, and is basically refined sugar. But it isn't sugar it is "made with sugar". So that might be the issue there.

i have heard that aspertame is very very very bad. very bad. incredible that the fda ok'ed it at all. here is a quote:
In 1995, FDA Epidemiology Branch Chief Thomas Wilcox reported that aspartame complaints represented 75% of all reports of adverse reactions to substances in the food supply from 1981 to 1995.[6] Concerns about aspartame frequently revolve around symptoms and health conditions that are allegedly caused by the sweetener. A total of 92 different symptoms and health conditions were reported by physicians and consumers.[7]

"testimonials on aspartame". Check it out on the web. There are many people out there complaining of vision loss, memory loss, aches and pains and headaches and after they eliminated their drinks or food containing aspartame they pretty much returned to normal. Aspartame may not affect all people the same but its a good place to start the elimination process if you have strange symptoms you or the doctor cant explain. I drank a soda containing aspartame and I could feel my throat closing up and it made it hard to breathe. I was ok after a few hours but I read labels very carefully now.

There are no totally proven adverse effects of artificial sweeteners, except that they can increase appetite. People just don't trust them because they seem too good to be true.

I've heard of the issue with Sacrin, but use your own judgment...if you use it don't over use it. From my personal experience, I was using it in my coffee and to sweeten my yogurt, then when I went off of it for a couple of weeks...I stopped having as many migraines. So I don't use it anymore, so make sure you monitor your body reactions.

The reason is because of Sacrin. People think that it causes cancer yet they have no qualms with sticking a cigarette in their mouths.
Trust me, Splenda is a million times better for you then simple sugars a.k.a. fructose.
