The official answer is yes, tomorrow is the deadline.

If you file late and have a refund coming, there won't be any penalty.

Any penalties for late filing of a return are based on tax due with the return.....so, if you have a refund coming back, then technically there will be no penalties due since no $$ is due with the return.

But - to be safe, I would file an extension (it's a 4 line or so form - will take you about 1 minute to complete) by tomorrow. Then, file by October 15; the longer you wait, the longer the government gets to use your $$!!!

Even if you do not expect a refund, the deadline is tomorrow the 17th for everyone to file their taxes, except where you file for an extention.

do no longer spend the money, yet. First, determine that the direct deposit is what you envisioned it to be. once you're return suggested you would be getting $3000, did you get $3000 (minus any expenditures which you had taken out.) If this is diverse than what you envisioned, you should get a letter from the IRS in approximately 10 days, explaining the adaptation. by way of fact W2 preparation is likewise sent to the IRS, they might have caught it and corrected it for you. in the event that they did no longer, you will might desire to document a 1040X, this is a paper variety to amend your return. in case you owe, deliver them a examine. in case you get greater of a reimbursement, they're going to deliver it to you.
