Main functions of leaves include:

1. carrying on photosynthesis to make food molecules for the plant
2. storing food in specialized leaves like those in an onion bulb
3. drawing water up through the plant by participation in transpiration
4. protecting the plant as cactus spines do
5. trapping insect prey for plants that live in poor wetland soils

There are more, but these are some of the main ones

Leaves in plants are primarily for photosynthetic functions. The structure of leaves are suited in many ways for photosynthesis. However, some leaves perform other functions besides photosynthesis. These leaves are therefore called specialized leaves. Some examples include:
cactus leaves are modified and become spines which function for protection
poinsettia leaves turn red and become bracts which function for attracting pollinators
pea plant leaves can be modified into tendrils for climbing and clinging
some leaves can convert into saucer shapes and capture little pools of water
pitcher plant leaves can modify into fly traps which catch insects so that nutrients are added to the plant food supply
sensitive plants or Mimosa can close the leaf upon a slight touch to protect it from predators
cactus and succulents leaves can store water in habitats with limited rainfall
and of course, humans have thought of utilizing the leaves in a thousand and one ways
