I would suggest this: wǒ bú shì huá rén (我不是华人).
"huá rén (华人)" is general term for Chinese (people) whereas "zhōng guó rén (中国人)" refers to Chinese of China nationality.

wo bu shi zhong gwo ren. you can say the "shi" like "sure" like the above user said, and that's beijing dialect, but i just like 'shi' without all the tongue curling 'rrr's.
