Well apparently some women are made from dirt (some act that way at least), so I don't know what you are talking about.

First of all, this is taken by most as an allegorical tale. Therefore, the question reduces to "Why did the author choose this particular device?"

I'm the child of a protestant minister. My dad's take on this was that the first person was made of dirt to show all humanity as children of the Earth: responsible for it, but very much a part of the ecosystem.

Similarly, Eve was made from Adam's rib as a symbol of their equality and interdependence: an integral, internal piece from the middle. Also, it's possible that the writer wanted to get in one case of a male giving life to a female, to somewhat abate the force of females bearing all life thereafter.

However, it's hard to judge the literary intent of a writer roughly three milennia dead; we don't know the intended audience, but we can make a few guesses, being descnedents of said cultures.

God first created man in His image as a spirit being. And this spirit man already contained both male and female. Gen. 1:27.

To tend the Garden, God created a body for the spirit of man from the dust of the ground. Gen. 2:7&15. Your answer is Gen. 2:23. The spirit of man is always related to bone and marrow.

People jump the story ahead overlooking the fact that her name was Adam from her very beginning. She was called woman but her name was Adam. When God called Adam, Adam male and Adam female responded as one. She did not receive the name Eve until after the fall.

The female principal was already in Adam. God took it out spiritually but also tied it to Adams living flesh and bone. The result was that they were one in all respects and both were called and responded to the same name.

If a separate body had been created for her she could not have retained the name. The woman, taking the man's name in marriage, is a sign of the unity of the original pair. It has nothing to do with 'superior man' but rather reflects God's original plan and God's original order.

Now man comes out of woman. Originally woman came out of man. The rib was taken to retain the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace in one flesh.

There is much more to the story but I trust this helps answer your question.

God did that and called her woman...because she was made from man. It was intended to show her as a helpmeet for man. Not something taken from the dirt; but something created out of him. It was intended to be a closeness that can only be when two are joined.

Men and women are at odds because of the fall in the garden of Eden. It was never intended to be such. It was supposed to be a beautiful relationship where the two worked and lived in harmony, perfect compliments to one another.

One day Jesus will restore all things. And that harmony will exist again.

Making Eve was the first surgery. God made her and Adam said at last! bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. Possibly God wanted her to resemble Adam. Adam called her Ish shah meaning woman, or female man.

because a man wrote the bible, making it sound like "if it weren't for a man a female wouldn't of ever made it!" you know that crap. Know what though, if we were made from dirt or Adam was, why do we need more water in our bodies than dirt to survive. About 70% of the fat free mass of the human body is made of water.

Eve was made form Adams rib because this way she became a part of Adam and the two were one flesh. Adam was created from the dust and the spirit was breathed into him. Adam was created first flesh and then spirit and the two became a living soul. This is the image of God. Eve was taken from man to show the unity of a man and a woman that they too are one flesh these show God's order and the image of God. Man was created in God's image not many understand this but man was above the animals having also a spirit man is more than flesh as God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit and they are one God. When a man marries he is said to be one with his wife as Adam and Eve were one flesh.
God's order is reflected in these things Christ is in submission to the Father as The church is in submission to Christ. and a wife is in submission to her husband and flesh is in submission to the spirit. It is God's order.

"Two shall become as one." The natural desire for man to love woman and woman to love man is there close relationship physically.."Bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh" Adam and Eve shared a kindred spirit. A picture of marriage today. There is so much more to a relationship than just sex. They were not made two separate entities but share a common bond. I think married couples can under this.

Well duuu who doesn't like ribs? haha Job had a name for God and for the life of me I can't remember what is was but in translation it meant 1/2 hunter 1/2 breasted one. Basically Job was saying God was as much male as he was female. Adam created in the image of God being also being half male and half female. (Not in the sexual since)
God took was was famine from Adam and created Eve..it's when they are joined in marriage do they become one person again.
