An interesting point was made earlier: Believers are masters of doublethink and doublespeak. I think it is brilliant: They must use those processes to believe in both much of religion and science, or deny science and accept much of religion.

lol Monk: your arrogance makes me laugh. But that's ok, you may yet achieve humility one day.
Sorry if my "big words" confuse you, I'll tone it down to your second grade reading level.

Hey jedi, that was me! 1984 was one of my favs, along with Brave New World. It's amazing to me that religious people can read books like these and not see themselves as we see them.

That has to be some of the more skewed reasoning I've seen in a long time. To begin with, you give no examples of what you're talking about. Anybody can accuse someone else of doublethink and doublespeak, but without concrete examples, it's just an unsubstantiated generalization.
And what makes you think that religion and science are incompatible? There are many scientists who believe in God, and they certainly don't have any problem reconciling their beliefs and their occupation.
So it appears that the only one who's indulging in doublespeak and doublethink here tonight is you. Unless you can move out of generalizations into specifics, I'm afraid your argument and logic are both very weak.
And in 1984, I was going through a rough period in my life. I can't remember a lot of the details, but I do know that there were family and personal problems going on. Not one of the better years of my life.

"Science without Religion is lame. Religion without Science is blind"~ Albert Einstein
They are not meant to be mutually exclusive or incompatiable. It is not doublespeak or double think but rather a melding as they were intended to answer the problems facing man and the universe.
1984 sucked, the year and the book.
Edit: Brave New World and 1984 = educated? I read both those in the 7th grade, that is not educated.

1984 was a great year, the year my life changed with a new career and a new son d:O)
As far as the rest of you question goes, get serious, you don't have a clue. If you knew anything about science and the Bible, you would know that science (which means knowledge) supports every bit of science you will find in the Bible.

Science has it's share of doublethink and doublespeak too.
Religion does not have a patent on nonsense.

I graduated from high school in 1984, and that's about the only positive thing I recall about that year.
I'm not sure what the rest of your question is about. Are you referring to the novel 1984? I think you don't make much sense.

I liked 1984, it was fun. The best part was that the Star Wars series was pure then.
Riddle me this Jedi : why is there such a large discrepancy between how intelligent you are and how intelligent you think you are?

I was five, there was the one and only real earthquake here the night of my 5th birthday...in the middle of the Care Bear birthday book... And I got a sister at the end of that year. It was an interesting year.

I am more of a deductive reasoning type thinker.. Just like any puzzle, I think every situation through from every possible perspective and go with the one that fits.
