I want a small dog and I have two options: Papillon and Beagle. I don't know which one would be better for me. I live in a house with three cats and I love to cuddle and sometimes wrestle. I want a dog that would train rather easily and gets along with animals and people. It has to adapt to a moveable enviornment because I might move in a year. I'm not sure which dog to choose. They are both adorable and both have good dispositions. I am going into high school in 1 1/2 years. HELP!

I am a rather hyper girl. I am used to cats, but I want a dog that will have enough energy for me to handle but not too much to drive me insane by. It has bark and howl rarely so it doesn't drive my parents insane! It has to be a loyal companion that can deal with being picked up constantly and being played with ( running, tossing a toy, etc. ). I have three cousins who will want to play with and see the puppy and it can't be lazy.

papillion is a little higfher maintenance and if you are used to cats you might be better off with the beagle who is sure to be loving and playfull as well but high maintenance dogs are a hard way to get into dogs they need attention daily and cat lovers are not used to that I KNOW we went fdrom 1 cat to 4 dogs and all 4 are HM Poms & Lhasa Apso what a shock that was.

From what you describe, I would recommend that you get a Papillon. Beagles howl (Bay) alot. They also can be very stubborn. My friend has a beagle and 5 cats and sometimes the beagle will chase the cats for no reason even after living with the cats for the past 2years. Its very annoying and disruptive. Beagles can be high strung and need alot of attention. Good luck!

Try to match the dog to your lifestyle. Get an adult with an established disposition and behavior pattern. A pup is like any other baby. You never know what you have until it grows up. Training will modify behavior, but the soul and spirit of the animal are part of the animal. No training will change that. If your dog is more aggressive than you like, sorry. Go with an adult of known disposition.

Beagles are difficult to deal with sometimes. Don't know about Papillon. Decide very carefully. Is there anything wrong with trying a mutt. They can be good dogs and need homes.

The best thing to do is go to akc.org. Read up on each breed. Then goto the page where they refer breeders/clubs. You wont find breeders on that page but you will find clubs in your area for the breed you want. Those clubs will give referrals based on the breeders following strict breeding guidelines. Still be careful and visit all the dogs before buying one. Check their pedigrees on POST to make sure the parents are good stock. If they are not on POST then they do not have confirmation titles (saying they are sound). Check for heath checks on the parents and get a written guarantee of health on the puppy. If you need to you can im me and I would love to help. Another place to get a lot of info is www.hlazyl.com or www.geocities.com/africanlionhounds. These sites are geared towards different breeds but have great info on chosing a good breeder. Good luck.

If you like to wrestle with your dog, then a Beagle would be the best dog for you.
Papillons are rather fragile, and could end up getting injured in an innocent game of wrestling.

the first thing you would want to do is think adoption try a shelter and when your there get a dog/puppy that comes to you naturally.and when it dose make sure its OK with cats talk to some one at the shelter to see if the animal is OK with moving into a diffrent environment and if your willing to have a dog with a lot of energy get a papillon

Papillon would probably be the better choice. I know that we wanted a beagle, but we didn't have a fenced in yard so the people wouldn't give it to us. They love to hunt and be out doors and if you don't have a fence I would advise you don't bring them out doors without a leash because they might run. I don't know much about papillons, but if they're less likely to hunt animals it'd probably be better for you, especially with cats.

Beagles are great dogs, smart, active, and good natured. Just remember they need exercise. Teach him/her to play catch with a frisbee and a tennis ball, and they can get a good workout in a 1/2 hour a day.

i would chose the papillon. They are more cuddling dogs, beagles are very active. as for getting along with other animals, you will probably have to find a dog that has already been around other animals, i suggest looking at your local animal shelter. they might have just the one you are looking for.
