Well, i've had my chihuahua, Candy, for about 2 years now, and every single day, it's the same thing, she sees our 6-month old Golden Retriever, she barks, she sees our 8-week old Golden Retriever, she barks, she sees someone walking down the street, she barks......she even barks at the air.She shows her teeth to them and tries to snap, she occasionally bites
I've tried pretty much everything on her besides the shock collar to get her to stop, I love her very much and don't want to take her to the shelter or put her down, so, how do I get her to stop?

By the way......she's not really the "playful type" and like I said before, she barks at the air too.....
she's also semi-territorial, she thinks she "owns" a sofa in the living room right next to the window, and she will bite anyone (except my mom, dad, and brother) if we get near it....she also defends her bed from our other dogs

Seriously, try a bark collar. They work wonders. They only shock when they bark. Tell the command to the dog "Quiet"
or whatever then if it persists, put it on. you'll only need to do it a couple times. I know , I have 7 Chihuahuas.

If you ever find a solution for a barking chihuahua, please let me know. I live in a large apartment building and the lady across the hall has one. Katie barks at EVERYTHING. Someone walking down the hall. My door opening. Someone knocking on a door three blocks away. Someone saying "hi" to me. My dog. UH>>>OHHH !!! I forgot about MY dog......my Pomeranian....she's a well-behaved 9 year old dog...except for the barking. I can't hear Katie for my dog's barking at EVERYTHING. And then, there's the Pom in the next hall. Now there's a barker! And he bites too. Guess I am lucky.
Seriously, a shock collar does work. That's the good answer.

that what those kinds Of dogs do if u ever get another dog look into the background of the kind of god u want IE barking if its OK with other dogs that kind of stuff i have a little dog like that along wit a pit and Rottweiler and she dosent bark cause when she do she gets put in her kennel but if you use a kennel for sleeping in u cant use it as a punishment because if you do the dog will think that every night it is being punished , the kennel works for me but i would never put a shock collar on my dogs

Chi's bark alot, but you can train them not to. They have those clicker training tools that they use on dolphins and dogs too. Chi's don't like that clicking noise near them. When mine bark this is what I do, click it right up to them and they back away. You have to be consistent. Don't put her down just because of this. You can try a small collar on her too as others have suggested on the forum. Good Luck:)

Well, chihuahuas bark...that's what they do! :-) You should give the shock collar a try. Or, get a spray bottle and everytime she barks, squirt her with a little bit of water. Make sure she doesn't see where it's coming from, or she will think that she only gets squirted when your around.

Make it so she can't look out the window, or catch her looking out the window, because she is looking for something to do-say NO when she is looking out the window for something to do. Have a toy ready and play with her...this may help. I think she is bored.
Also don't yell when she is barking because dogs think that it is now a bark fest and it is hard to calm them down...it is best to shake a can of pennies to get their attention, then call them and pet them.

It is a Chihuahua, when u figure it out, let me know. My mother-in-law has 2 of them and that is all they do, BARK! I would LOVE to kick their butt outside while we are there, just to have time to visit in peace without hearing them. I dont know why they bark all the time.

Well the answer is that you have a chihuahua.
Chihuahuas are very nervous and scared. The
only way to overcome that is to act brave and
make a lot of noise. They know they are small
and can be overcome by almost anything so
they make loud noises. Be patient with them
'cause they are sweet as sugar, are'nt they.

If you have had your dog for two years and you got her as a puppy I hate to say it but you have in fact taught her to be that way, because you didn't stop her at first. try taking her for long walks to help tire her out and correct her when she does it. not by using a muzzle either they are stupid. Try a squirt bottle with ice water instead.

Buddy, just the thought of you "putting her down" is WRONG!
Try putting a muzzle on her when she starts to bark.
My chi is the same way, but he hates the muzzle.
