Jesus is mistakenly portrayed as a white male because Christianity has been greatly promoted in the Western world where the males are white. Renderings of Jesus were therefore, "white" like most of the Western men.

Logically, a Jewish man (Jesus) who was from the Middle East would look like most Jewish men; dark hair, dark eyes and perhaps darker skin. There are many Middle Eastern people who have light skin and light eyes though.

In the USA, when the government asks for statistical information on ethnicity (usually on government forms) the peoples who are considered "white" or caucasian are from Europe, North Africa, parts of Asia and the Middle East. Go figure!

The Bible never gives any physical description of Christ. The closest thing we get to a description is in Isaiah 53:2b, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” All this tells us is that Jesus’ appearance was just like any other man's – He was ordinary-looking.
Most of the images we have of Jesus today are probably not accurate. Jesus was a Jew, so He likely had dark skin, dark eyes, and dark hair. This is a far cry from the blond-haired, blue-eyed, fair-skinned Jesus in many modern pictures. One thing is clear: if it were important for us to know what He really did look like, Matthew, Peter and John, who spent three years with Him, would certainly be able to give us an accurate description, as would His own brothers, James and Jude. Yet, these New Testament writers offer no details about His physical attributes.

Jesus is not White or Black. Jesus is of no race because no one knows what God looks like. However, if you have to give Jesus a racial makeup it would be Arabic. This is due to the fact that Mary was of Hebrew descent.

He is portrayed as a white male in the u.s. I immagine this is because it is the appearence that most white people respond to. If americans were purple, picures of jesus in the country would be purle. The church just wants to fill the pews.

I always thought that was funny. In Lutheran churches, especially Scandinavian ones, Jesus has blonde hair and blue eyes. In African churches, he's African. I'll bet in the Christian churches in India, he probably looks Dravidian.

Truth is, if there was a religious reformer of the 1st century named Yeshua (and there were probably dozens of them as Yeshua was a common name), he probably looked like a typical Judean. Meaning, he probably had olive skin, curly black hair, hair on his back and shoulders, brown eyes, perhaps a Roman nose, and generally looked like a lot of people in the Lebanon/Israel/Palestine area...

No one knows what jesus looks like. The lands weren't split like they were now. And the bible has been rewritten over and over so there's no telling where that man was born or even when he was born. Unless you know him personally, NO ONE knows the truth about him.

the closest thing we have to what jesus looks like is the Hoffman head of Christ portrait painted long ago.
Jesus has no beauty in which to be desired as far as physical appearance goes. that is what the scripture says

look at the 6 million jews that died in the holocaust. he would look similar to them

You are right. I guess we just assume people to look somewhat like we do. Jesus probably had brown eyes and darker skin. It doesn't really matter what he looked like. It's his spirit that counts.
