A friend asked me this, and I am a great fan of the book and couldn't really think of an answer. Any ideas?

Religions don't really exist in Harry Potter. At the most, Christmas is widely celebrated with a large decorated tree and everything, but no easter or other holidays (except Halloween). All holidays are more or less tradition/secular and not really religious.

There aren't too many symbols per se...at least not religous ones. Maybe a few cult ones.

But if you are looking for that kind of stuff you need to read Dan Brown. Good books!
