You are doing the right thing in starting your scholarship search before your senior year. There are probably scholarships out there for other grades out there. However, I recommend on using more than one search method to locate scholarship money because what might be listed in one spot might not be listed on another. I will list for you free places to locate scholarship money.

First, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Sometimes a college major's website will list scholarships, too. This is for seniors primarily.

Second, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Third, if she is a high school senior, the guidance office has a list of local scholarships. This is for seniors primarily.

Fourth, good grades and SAT/ACT scores pay at most schools in the form of merit scholarships. Also, most states do reward students with an excellent GPA in the form of a scholarship.

Fifth, the FAFSA form needs to be completed after January 1 of her senior year. It will be for the upcoming fall semester or quarter. It will offer need based grants from the federal government based on her family's income and savings. In addition, it will qualify her for the federal work study program. It is free to fill out.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. There are scholarships for a variety of things including ethnicity, clubs, hobbies, and even wearing duct tape to the high school prom. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

Try fastweb.com. There's a lot of ads but they will match you up with scholarships after you give them some information on you and your intended field of study. Of course, help yourself out by keeping a high GPA, scoring high on the ACT/SAT, keeping a good attendance record and involving yourself in *relevant* extra-curricular activities.
