Soak your hands in hot water twice daily. This will help relax the muscles. You can also use hand supports which really does help you not over use the muscle.

I've known many people to get surgery for carpal tunnel and they've had excellent results and been able to go back doing most of the things they could before.

You can wear the braces there are for the carpal tunnel, or if it's severe enough, there is surgery where they can release the pressure there, and it works, I can attest to that.
