there are so many possibilities right now. what i have always done when writing horror is to wrote the whole story up to the reveal of the killer and by that time you will have a pretty good idea of who you want it to be. There may be points you might have to change but usually its not too hard. Just keep goin kill some other people off and the killer will find you.

Here is a case of cultural insanity...forensic and other types of psychology try to learn from them..what motivates them...
This is like the conclusion of proof of no God; if you start out with a faulty premise...all the logic in the world..will not provide an accurate answer.
I heard one murderer, who was honest about it. He said "I like to kill"... Just that one..the rest are self deceived or lying.
Not crimes of passion..or the gun going off in a robbery....just liking to change a living creature into a dead one....To exercise that choice and power...to take life..knowing that you cannot give it. A pure necrophilic person.

Actually, I'm a whodunit writer and true crime fan and I'm surprised I never thought of this one!
Looking back, I cannot recall a single atheist killer of note (other than those that used state sponsored murder as their weapon, like Stalin). Not one serial killer or anything!
In fact many serial killers have a spiritual or mystical leaning in their motives (Charles Manson, Son of Sam, Night Stalker Richard Ramirez, etc.).

They give the reason they feel why they choose to do what they did, just like the reasons why people say they donate to charity.

My particular morbid fascination is with mothers who murder their children "because I heard the voice of god telling me to do it," "because that was the only way to save them from sin and send them straight to heaven," and so on and so forth.
(It has to be a measure of the true horror of faith, that it can so completely pervert the maternal instinct.)
But "because there's no god therefore there's no reason not to kill"? Can't recall ever hearing that one.

People have lost their sanity when they do such a thing like killing. They have lost the sense of value of the life. SAD. : (

there is no god and I won't be accountable and I don' kill. There are many like me who know God is fiction and still live by what is morally right.

There is only one reason for killing, in any case: a temporary moment of complete insanity.
People can use pseudo-reasoning, in the end there is only one reason: a loose screw in their heads.

Ultimately, it's because the killer has a serious grudge against people. When they invoke religion or politics, they're just blowing smoke...
