It's really quite obvious. Non-believers don't care what others believe, so long as they don't try to force those beliefs on others.
Forcing your beliefs on others is the driving goal behind every major monotheistic religion in the world, however.
Therefore it cannot be debated, that believers started all of this.
If they would keep their beliefs out of politics, schools, etc, no one would have a problem with them. No one is telling them they can't believe in their gods.
We're just telling them they can't make US believe. Leave us sane people alone, and you'll never hear from us again.

Great question, in my opinion the "malicious, judgmental discourse", is spread by those disenfranchised by religion. So if it wasn't for the Believers, passing all of the judgment onto non-believers, I don't think the non believers would be spreading the "malicious, judgmental discourse"
I think if we could all just respect each others religion, and live according to the rules of the constitution, we'd get along so much better.
And I have to admit, I've gotten into the bad habit of bashing religion, it's a bad habit I've picked up since reading all of the hate on yahoo answers.

Well I'm always told that atheists act defensive whenever religion is brought up. I guess that means we're defend against an attack and therefore did not start it. That would also mean that believers are offensive.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it was the Believers.
Because all a Nonbeliever needs to do to get the Believers riled up, is tell the truth. No malice or judgement required.
Religion, OTOH, is _all about_ malice, division, and judgement. Every time.

I believe Believers are responsible as the bible ect is so very judgmental itself. I do also think that many people use religion to justify their own bigotary and hate,
Atheists have nothing to be judgmental about as they dont believe.

People who are bored, regardless of their beliefs... Or lack thereof. I have many religious friends, some of them very much so. We all get along fine, except for the occasional issue of us liking the same guy and one of us him out. (Never me. I'm not allowed to date, nor am I mature enough, at least in my mind!)

I like Captain Atheism's answer.
I really don't care what other people believe - as long as they do not use that belief as a tool to try to interfere with my life.

I don't know who started it but when I started this site about a week ago, I noticed Christians sharing the Word of God to anyone on here and Non-believers bashing them or making fun of them at every turn. I thought, well this is the place for me. Maybe I can be of help in spreading the word.

Believers totally...because differing religions have always looked down on each other. Atheists on the other hand, for their own safety, have generally always kept quiet about their views.
