You can take Silver Star or Silver Meteor from NC to Ft. Lauderdale. The Silver Meteor stops in Rocky Mount and Fayetteville only. The Silver Star stops in Raleigh, Cary, Southern Pines and Hamlet.

The Silver Meteor takes 17 hours from Rocky Mount to Ft. Lauderdale. The Silver Star takes almost 24 hours due to its longer route.

You can get coach tickets for less than $150 each way.

Unless you really want to ride a train, I would recommend you fly. When traveling long distance, amtrak and the airlines usually have comparible prices. The plane will get you there a lot faster. I bought a trip next week from West Palm Beach to Manchester, NH and the ROUND trip cost was $136.60, cheaper than the train ride one way to NC.
