Actually, this depends on how late your credit card payments are and how soon you catch up the payment. Most credit companies only report you to TRW's if you are 30 days late or more. If you are less than 30 days, then they don't bother reporting you.

Also, it will not ding your credit majorly for just two, but it does stay on forever!!!! Well, close to forever. If you close an account, it will come off your credit in 7 years. If you get dinged by the credit company, you can disbute it with your TRW's (a very easy process) and most of the time, the credit card company will not bother to confirm that you were late if you are caught up. Believe me, I've been in every kind of bad credit situation and I've learned all the tricks for cleaning up your credit.

Lastly, late payments are always correctable, but if you are trying to get a mortgage, the mortgage companies look most closely at the last year. Try to keep all your payments on time in that year.

If you immediately get in touch with the credit card issuer, not too bad. I have had some where the statement never came. If it doesn't happen more than once a year, they'll even reverse the late charges. But you have to talk to them as soon as you find out about the problem.

Severly since your credit score focuses more on recent behavior than past (over 2 years old, and then another drop after 5 years old) behavior.
