I would make up a "punishment" everytime I caught myself cussing - maybe run up and down the stairs? or a good pinch? a dollar in a jar? Try to replace your favorite word with something stupid - I use "sugarfoot" and "crocodile tears" - I know, I know - sounds like a preschooler, but Hey ! it works.

First of all, you should know that there is absolutely no reason to cuss for these reasons:

1. People get offended when they hear it
2. Whoever is cussing sounds rediculious
3. It does not make you sound smarter or cooler, nor does it make your language more colorful
4. People start thinking poorly of you
5. It is not polite
6. It is intimidating (threatning) to hear someone cussing
7. (Insert your reason here)

If I were you, and I really needed to say a cuss word look at it this way:

Pretend as if you were always speaking to a higher authority figure. You wouldn't want to go around cussing to your
boss now, would you?

Ask yourself, are you really just cussing because you're angry or sad, or are you doing it to look cool?

1. If you are really angry, I would get some help (counselor). Try wearing a rubberband around your wrist and snapping it against your skin every time you slip out a bad word.

2. Try saying words that sound like cuss words but really aren't. For instance, "Fudge" instead of the "F" word, or "Shitake Mushrooms." You get the idea.

3. If you are just cussing to seem cool to other people, take this into account: People honestly don't think you're cooler because you cuss.

4. Also know that you're not going to perfect. Sure, everybody slips out a cuss word now and again.

Remember, it takes approximately thirty days to stick with a habit (in your case, to refrain from cussing).
I hope that this helps you. Please let me know!

Instead of saying the cuss word use a different word that sounds like it. It worked with my friends. Try not to think about saying them.

Learn some new words. Great place to begin is the dictionary. And undo a learned habit. Do not use those words, make a conscious choice not to use them. And if you have more words in your vocabulary; chances are you will curse less. God bless****

Send me $50 everytime you cuss. That will break you quickly.

Pretend there is a toddler in their "repeat everything others say" mode around you all the time. You wouldn't let f-bombs fly in front of a young child? Then you shouldn't around others. It's not easy. I work at a school and know I must control my tongue around them and knowing my job is on the line is a great deterrent!

I had the foulest mouth of anyone I knew...I think I even invented a few words that still exist today.

When I became a Christian, over time God's Spirit cleaned up my language.

100% truth.

Klunk yourself lightly on the forehead a number of times, tell yourself "stop" and notice how fast you stop. See,you can do it.

Same with any bad habit. Just stop.

Find someone you are normally around that you can be accountable to. Tell them you will pay them $20 every time they catch you swearing.

Sometimes uneducated people don't have the vocabularly to express themselves. So they use curse words.
