You can go to http://www.kraftfoods.com and subscribe to Kraft Food & Family magazine for free. They have some really good simple recipes that you can cook for one person or a group of family/friends.

Also, I'd try buying one of Rachel Ray's cookbooks. Her stuff is quick and simple. She has a couple of "30 minute meal " books.

Other than that maybe Easy Home Cooking, Home Cooking, or Simple & Delicious. I think any of those would be good magazines to subscribe to. They all have some good quick fix recipes.

Hope that helps some. Good luck! :)

Unless you are a vegetarian, I recommend Cooking Light. Everything is pretty simple, elegant and has great herbs and spices. They have a section with complete meals i.e. start while X is cooking chop the veggies for Y. The fat content is limited so the food won't promote heart disease like the stuff in the Good Housekeeping type magazines. Helpful hint: if a recipe doesn't list the nutrition information (calories, fat content, cholesterol per serving) then the magazine is too embarassed to admit they are suggesting a "heart clogger."
I am a vegetarian, I can't think of a good vegetarian cooking magazine- I used to buy cooking light and modify stuff from there using fake meats. Cooking Light also has great side dishes as well as a monthly section called "Inspired Vegetarian." It's the best.
The Kraft Food and Family magazine that someone above recommended is great if you want to weigh 300lbs. All the recipes are cheese happy and fat soaked. Everything looks awsome and tasty, but I can't recommend it for health.

I like Bon Appetit although sometimes the recipes can be a little complicated. As far as cookbooks go, you should check out 'The 60 Minute Gourmet' by Pierre Franey. When I started cooking I used this cookbook all the time - it has simple recipes that can be done in under an hour, the ingredients aren't difficult to find and the flavors are really good.

His book 'Cuisine Rapide' is also very good - I still use this at least a couple times a week.

You should subscribe for Kraft Food and Family. You can get it on www.kraftfoods.com It's free and the recipes are good. I really like Quick Cooking. It's nice and gives color photos of the recipes so you know what they should actually look like. That helps me as a beginner/intermediate level cook. Good luck!

The best cooking magazine I have found is called Fine Cooking. It's full of recipes and explanations about everything involving food and cooking. I like it a lot better than magazines such as Bon Appetit and Gourmet because those tend to have way too many ads and articles about things like restaurants and such. I don't want to read about a restaurant I'm not likely to ever go to, I want to read about cooking. That's why I like Fine Cooking so much because that is exactly what it sticks to and it is very detailed. I also like Cooks Country, but not quite as much as Fine Cooking.

A nice magazine is A Taste of Home. The recipes are simple and the food is great! You can also usually pick up a copy at your local newstand and they even have a Cooking For Two version.

Check out the Taste of Home series. They have simple recipes like "5 or less" (ingredients), and a lot of them use some pre-packaged foods. It's really good for busy people and the recipes are submitted and taste-tested by the staff. Plus maybe I'm old enough to remember it as stuff my mother would make.

Try Simple and delicious from the Taste of Home folks. They are good recipes and tempt your taste buds but you don't have to spend all day in the kitchen either. Most of the recipes are for a family but they do have special recipes for just one or two people. I know you will like it, take a quick (or long look) at their website it's bestsimplerecipes.com

Have fun!

Get a boneless fish. Put some seasoning oil, light soya sauce, and fish stock. Dont put a lot coz it makes it salty. Then mix all the fish with wheat flour and fry it till it becomes a nice brown color. Here's the recipe to make the sauce. Take mango lassi juice, orange lassi juice, chillie sauce and plum sauce. Put all these in a pan with the same amount of each and boil it. When it is done, you can pour it on the fish. For the deco, use lemon slices and salad. If you can cut the skin of a tomoto continuosly without breakin, it wil look like a rose. So you can put it on top. It will really look nice. Try it. Wish you all the best. Hope ur gf like it. And plz let me noe if you planned 2 choose this n if she like it. haha

Cook's Illustrated -- highly recommended.

The recipes are great and better yet they talk about why certain things work well and others don't -- so you learn to cook better too.

They also have practical stuff like articles on whether those fancy $200 skillets are really worth it or not and what brands of canned tomatoes taste best for pasta versus other dishes.
