And for extra fun, if you are over age 25 and hardly made anything, you may want to file because you get a REFUND anyway. But...no fileee, no refundeee!

I'm not positive but I believe it's right around $3,000 for the whole year that you dont have to PAY taxes, but you should file whether you have to pay or not. You could be entitled to a refund. The EZ form is only one page long and very easy to fill out. Sometimes not filing one year then filing in a following year will cause the IRS to review your records and some people get audited when that happens. Just to be safe, you might want to check the IRS website for answers.

Gee, not a correct answer so far.....

If it was from self-employment, you have to file on anything over $400. If it was on a W-2, then it depends on your filing status and whether you're a dependent, but with $2000 you wouldn't have to file.

For federal taxes the first $10,000 isn't taxed, but you need to file. You may get something back. Some states start taxing the first cent, like Montana where I live.
