My cousin's little boy will be celebrating his holy first communion. What is an appropriate dollar amount to give him as a gift. We are fairly close their family.

Holy Crapoly! The other people who answered spend a lot! I plan to give $20 to my godson for his this weekend. Honestly, I think $50 for a cousin's child would be ridiculously over-board. I think about $10 would be good.

$25-$50. They only make their first communion once in their lifetime. But it also depends on the family and child. Are they going to just spend it on clothes/toys $25 or put it in the bank for college $50? Only you know them best. If they are very close friends and it is coming from a big family I would say $35 or so.

As far as getting the child a religious gift, I personally wouldn't suggest that for a boy. Boys don't really seem to have the same sentiment toward religious items, as a girl would.

I would think anywhere from $20 - $50 would be OK. When I was a child (long, long ago) we didn't get that much. However when my parents got a little older and their younger nieces or nephews would have their first Communion, then my parents would send $50.

When I made my first communion I remember I recieved $50 from my grandparents towards college, which was wonderful. If you're close and looking for something a little more meaningful I would suggest something religiously significant like a special bible or rosary beads.
