You honestly can't cheer him up. A death in the familly is really hard. It's permanent. It's not like a bad grade on a paper, or a lost basketball game.
I know how you feel, there are times when I've seen my bf upset and it pains me to see him that way. No one likes to see the people we care about suffer. But suffering is part of being human.
Ask him what he needs from you. It could just be a hug, a voice on the other end of the line, picking up a meal, or telling him you'll be there if he's ever ready to talk about it.
He'll know that you care, and in time he'll be okay again.

For a while all he will need is space, but also to know that you will be there for him whenever he is ready to talk. Just be his shoulder to cry on and let him say how he is feeling and tell him that his uncle was the best man he could possibly be and he is looking over him now.
I am sorry to hear this, death is tragic but a part of living.

The same thing happened to my ex-boyfriend while we were dating but his grandpa died when he lost control of his semi truck slammed into a tree. It was a very emotional time for us, because i had gotten to know his family. The best thing i found to do was to comfort him, let him know it's ok to mourn, and help him through this time in his life. It's a lot harder with men than women, that's for sure.
I'm very sorry about his uncle. May God be with the both of you.

It's perfectly normal for him to be an emotional wreck. Just accommodate whatever he asks. If he says he needs some time to himself, give it to him. If he wants you with him, be there for him. Understand that he's going through a lot right now. There may be nothing you can do. Let him know you care. Let him know you love him.

too early to cheer him up yet, just be there for him, maybe in a few days to could go paintballing or something, but only if he fells up to it, ask him, talk to him and whatever you do do not ignore the situation like it never happened, be a shoulder to cry on, cry with him if thats what he needs but do something so he knows you are there.

Don't try to cheer him up. Why would you want him to be happy after this happened? Let him know that you're always going to be by his side. Just be there for him and hold him. let him know it's O.K to be sad. Let him be as sad as he wants because this is something that will never go away.

the do it idea is always an option, that'll ease his mind a LOT. In the meantime, just be there for him and spend time with him...he needs someone there to talk to, no one likes being alone in those times.

You can't cheer him up. Don't try.
What you can do, is be there for him. Be responsive to his needs. He needs love around him right now. Let his pain run it's course.

in this situation the only thing you can do is to be there for him, let him cry, scream, whatever it takes to get him to relax. It won't be easy but it is the only way. Been there!
