Because usually Atheists are more educated about religion and theology in general, and can actually answer the real questions that aren't idiotic stabs at them.

Christians and others answer questions re: atheism that is geared towards atheist .... Check the other Y!A questions if you believe some Christians are any kinder. Some are not.
Atheist are connected by a belief system that chooses not to believe in a god. That however, doesn't make them devoid of human spirituality ... just religion.
Tolerance allows everyone to participate fairly. Besides, you never know whom this forum might influence or what discussion the questions might bring. That's the same for all.
Peace.

It depends on the question. I know I, personally, don't answer questions that clearly are being asked of Christians or other believers. I only answer questions that are addressed to, or regarding atheists, or are questions that anyone can answer. Some people do butt in to questions that clearly aren't meant for them, and I don't think that's appropriate. It's not only atheists who do that, though. Christians and other believers do it, too. As for being IN the religion and spirituality section, most of us answer questions in here because, while we might not believe in a deity, religion as a subject affects our lives, too. It affects our lives very strongly, in fact. That gives us the right to discuss it in a forum like this.

I think its just to glorify themselves. By putting people down it feeds there ego's. Since they don't know the Lord, that's the only edification they can get. Sad I know but even though there pathetic attempts to hurt us continue we as Christians should not answer there evil questions. We should not throw our pearls before swine, and I see it over and over on this web page. If someone is sincere in asking a Christian a question that's one thing but if all the Christians on here would totally ignore there stupid questions they would more on. They want the ego building. If we would stop doing it they would stop dishing it out. Stick to you starred list, and answer there questions, If Christians starred each others questions we would have plenty to answer.

So I'm a seminary trained ex-pastor that dropped out of his doctorate program on becoming an unbeliever. I was a Christian from my eariliest memory, an MYF leader, YFC coordinator, Sunday school teacher, lay minister, seminarian and pastor. Does that qualify me to comment on your religion? I'm quite certain I know more about it than you, otherwise you'd be an atheist too.
That aside, one could always ask why Christianity isn't in the mythology section? After all, we put other religions where gods mate with human women in the mythology section. We know dead people don't really rise after three days. Blindness isn't really healed with spit and mud. The earth was never really covered with water over the mountain tops. The cosmos wasn't really made in six days. Snakes and donkeys don't really speak in intelligible language. Israel was never in captivity in Egypt. Moses was a ripoff of the Akkadian legend of Sargon. Immaculate conception doesn't really happen. Herod never massacred the children of Bethlehem. The Romans never conducted a census that required anyone to return to their place of birth, not under Quirinius or anyone else. I mean we could go on and on with the nonsense you believe on the mere say so of your culture regarding a religion that is scarcely any sillier than anything the Greeks ever believed, all of which you readily agre is nonsense because you've ben conditioned not to make the exception to critical thinking about Zeus that you make for Yahweh. In fact much of your religion was taken from the Greeks.
How do you propose to ever learn the truth about anything if the only people you want to hear from are the ones that believe the same delusion as you? Do you want truth, or do you just want your misconceptions ratified but others who have also been conned in this fraud?

just because they don't believe in God doesn't mean they have an opinion, or have no knowledge about religion.
Actually, most of the athiests that I've come across in this section are very knowledgeable about religion in general. And it's always good to get an answer from someone outside a particular religion to offer a fresh perspective.

I answer questions out of a genuine fear of what is to come. With the radical hope that maybe someone will look at the facts and have their eyes open. A long shot I know. But if we do not sever church and state AS IT WAS INTENDED, we are heading down a horrible road torn by warfare. Of this I have little doubt.

'When we are asking a religious question we aren't seeking answeres from others who know nothing about Christianity.''
Some Atheists converted from Christianity so they know a lot about it.
And anyways, Atheists can answer any question they want. It's Freedom of Speech.

I am here to monitor the religious right in the ongoing efforts to impose their will on non-believers. Many of us are scared of being jailed or persecuted should the religious right make further inroads into the government on all levels (Federal, state or local).
On the other hand, I majored in religion and spent a year in seminary. I dare say that I know more ABOUT religion than most of the believers on this site.

Atheists have an opinion too. Atheism is technically a religion, so they have the right to post. And no. I am a Pagan and I answer questions from Muslims. It makes one more well-rounded.
