to buy cigarettes????? I am 39 years old & when I went to get them I was carded.........I just sort of laughed and went to the car to get my wallet......this after telling them during the laughter my age. I have been told that I have a "baby face"....and that I do NOT look like I am pushing 40.....but to be carded for cigs....when you have to be 18 to buy them.....I think that is pushing it.....should I be offended or flattered? I am not sure how I feel about it......how would you all feel? :-)

Actually, you should be flattered. First of all, the person carding you is required to do random checks to make sure that you are not illegally buying cigarrettes, and so they do not get fired from their job. It may have just been by coincidence that you, a guy who "has a baby face" was carded.

Another thing to take into account is the fact that you look young for your age. Don't be self concious, because anyone with half a brian should probably be able to figure out who you are. Don't be discouraged that this would affect you if you are single. Put it this way, if you're 39 now, and you needed to pass off as 18, imagine what you'll look like when you're 49! (You'll look like you're 38.)

I used to work at a drug store and when people bought alcohol or cigarettes, I sometimes asked for id out of habit w/out really getting a good look at them. Sometimes i felt stupid when the person was obviously over 18 and they laughed while getting out their id
But..the fact that they made you go all the way to your car to get your wallet is a little strange! maybe their boss was watching them, or maybe they had recently gotten in trouble for not carding someone..who knows, it could be anything. And I think there's a general rule stores go by, like you have to card anyone who looks younger than 30...

Be flattered!! They actually are supposed to card anyone who looks under 30, so that is quite a compliment! Just think when you are 90 and in a senior home, all they other guys will be old and haggered and the hot young nurses will want to get with you, the hot Bond type guy who only looks 60!!!

Why is it sad that I almost don't believe you?

Anyhow, no one shouldn't be offended. You SHOULD be offended if you are 18 and you DON'T get carded!

Just to let you know, if you LOOK like you're under 30, that's when they card you. So worst case scenario, someone thought that you were thirty. Anyway, stores are so crazy now because they get shopped by people who are young looking to see if they get carded. Guy was only doing his job.

I'm 27 and I get carded all of the time!!! I don't buy cigarettes, so I don't worry about that. Anyway, I get carded for liquor when we go out. I like it personally. I want to hold on to my youth for as long as possible!

I personally have a hard time telling people's ages. Though I agree that there is a big difference between 18 and 39. Don't be offended though, I wouldn't be.

Nah, don't be offended. Some people have a difficult time estimating people's ages. They could get a fine too if they guess wrong. I had that happen at 37 and I just called my friends over as witnesses!!! LOL.

No, you should be flattered. And happy that someone is getting paid to do their job, and protecting underage smokers from buying smokes. i am a skomer, going on 30 and I feel ecstatic when I get carded. It is the times that I DON'T get carded that I am offended!!!!!!

I'm 51 and still get carded. I say wahooeeee!! every time it happens. They are just doing their job, its a heavy fine and their job if they make a mistake. The state also sends in people to trip them up undercover also. They are just being careful.

Where I live, a lot of stores have a policy in place, that everyone is carded, no exceptions. My dear dad who is 60 gets carded. So, no offense intended, just the business covering their butts,
