that has kept YOU convinced of your beliefs?

For example, I maintain my religious beliefs based on my ideals of justice. I have atheist friends who base their atheism on lack of concrete evidence.

What keeps YOU believing or what has convinced you otherwise?

I think religion or beliefs are a personal thing and is unique to each individual. I do not conform to any particular religion but I do have my beliefs. One major question that we all must ask is what happens when we die? Many religions have their different beliefs about this, I think a logical answer would be some form of re-incarnation, yet do I believe this? Does that make me an atheist? I believe what goes around comes around, kama? Is one religion correct? Is there a god? Or are we all stuck in the Matrix?

No-one can answer these questions for definate, at least no-one I trust, so I will not believe everything I am told but make my own mind up and I think religion should be a totaly personal thing, we make our own.

In the mean time I just plan to enjoy life and be good, what happens later, well I will cross that bridge when I come to it! Peace everyone!

An Excess of concrete Evidence

Growth in our "Life", is much like the growth in a "Garden".
The garden as an example needs great care.
We must till the soil, fertilise the soil, and plant the seeds or seedlings, for the crop desired. Sunlight, water, and excellant soil are necessary, to produce good fruits, and vegetables. After we have planted, we will notice that the first things to start growing in the garden are weeds. Persistent little critters. When this happens we need be to diligent in the removal of all the weeds. Then set back and watch and pray for a good crop. Life is much like this. Preparation is the same, but in certain instances people let the weeds in their lives get out of control, and the toxins from the weeds makes them ill. Sometimes wrong relationships can be like a weed. Improper behavior in our life can be like a weed. Intoxicants in our life can be like a weed. We must be good gardeners and tend to the garden of life, so we will be successful and bear good fruit.
My life is rooted in the Sufi tradition. I was raised, and received wonderful training in the Christian tradition from birth until age 31. My faith was firm but also shakey. I ask God for some direction. I was empty for nearly 3 years. I felt
spiritually empty. I met a spiritual teacher that told me that I had a lot of baggage and weeds that I needed to get rid of.
Thus my Sufi journey started. I have felt the baggage and weeds melt away. I have evidence in my life that cannot be documented but I know that my heart has changed. A plant can feel itself grow - I have felt myself grow.
May everyone that reads this improve his or her gardening skills.

My Atheism is supported by a lack of evidence but is derived from studying religions of the world and realizing that all religions and myths (I see both terms as synonyms) answer the same basic questions and have very similar societal functions. This is the basis of my Atheism, which lead to and supports my Humanism.

The one thing that you ask, Who has shown me the one thing needful is ...

The Holy Spirit of Truth.

He caused me to be born again by the living and abiding word.

He caused me to become convicted of my sins, my corruption and wretchedness, and of my great need.

He gave me the gift of repentance and of faith.

He baptised me into Christ.

He reveals the things of God to me and teaches me. He takes of Christ and shows to me and communicates Christ to me.

He keeps me for I cannot keep myself.

Without His wonderful work I should be lost. How much I owe Him.

How blessed and glorious is His ministry and thereby is Christ exalted.

How inexpressibly wonderful is Christ.

How amazingly great is the grace of God, His perfection and His goodness.

In all humility I can say to you - hereby do I know.

The fact that there are multiple religions, each believing the others wrong, is evidence enough for me that they all are.
