get rid of unhealthy food first so they can't eat what they shouldn't be eating, have healthy food in the house, I have been eating cans of green beans for my meals to lose weight lately, only 70 calories a can and it can be filling, I put a tiny bit of cheese on it and it isn't bad, I just warm it up and I have lost a lot of weight. About 30 pounds in 2 months, it hasn't been just green beans, but it has helped a lot.

Seriously reduce sweets. This kid is likely borderline diabetic if he is not already there. Cut TV time and put him or her in sports or in some type of athletic program. It is important this kid work to reduce his blood sugar, improve his or her blood pressure, and take a load off his or her heart.
Dieting is not so important, at this age, but exercise is.
If TV still prevails, put a treadmill in the TV room and have the kid walk or run while watching TV.

It's more what you shouldn't eat. You have to stop drinking soda. Drink water, milk, juices. At 10 you shouldn't be drinking caffeine to begin with. You should be drinking skim milk as well.
Look up what the proper serving size of food is. You are probably eatting 2-3 times the proper amount of food.
Stop eatting snack foods. Snack cakes, cookies, chips aren't good for you. It's not good for you and packs a ton of calories. Tell your mom not to even buy it. If its not in the house you won't eat it.
No fast food. Tell your mom that fast food isn't good for you and to stop buying it. No burgers, fries, or pizzas.
Really 144 is a lot of weight for your age. I know it isn't making you happy to be that large. I bet the kids pick on you a lot. And it is definitely difficult to get dates for school dances. You need to get your parents on board with you on this one.
You need to get active. Make activity part of your daily routine instead of computer or video games. Play soccer, tennis, baseball, swim. Sports are fun. They allow you a social circle, instant friends, and help keep you healthy for life. Start working on increasing your metabolism. Never miss a meal. Eat carrots, celery, cucumbers, yogurt or granola--every 2-3 hours.

If this kid isn't obese, there is no need for a diet. Young children most often get plenty of exercise in their day-to-day life, and just dropping junk food will be enough.

Any child going on a diet should consult with a doctor before making any drastic changes.

Plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, complex carbs and high protein low fat meat.
Cut out most sweets and all soda and juice...they are empty calories only, drink lots of water.

Fruits, veggies, whole grain stuff. Also, healthy snacks like string cheese and yogurt, things with protein to give them sustained energy. Also, exercise!
