I ask one simple question about my dog and everyone assumes that all I want is money. First of all, my cocker spaniel is not a peeing machine. She is a trained young dog who everyone will love. I don't want her to have puppies just for the money. I love dogs more than anything. Having more dogs in the world would lighten up my day. Why does everyone have to assume I'm a money craving catastrophe causer!?

The correct term was MONEY MAKING MACHINE and unlike some here I am not a breeder I work with rescue because I love dogs so there is absolutely no profit for me.
I did rescue and I think that it is sad that so many animals end up homeless and lots are put to sleep and all of this happens because of ignorance. If you are not breeding for betterment of the breed and if you do not show your dog and she is winning championships then you should not be breeding. Cocker Spaniels have their share of temperament problems since you have no idea what you are doing and you are just looking for any Cocker to breed with your dog, you will in fact be part of the problem and the reason more dogs end up homeless.
Everyone loves puppies but the problem is when the puppy grows up and the owners can not control their dog or nno longer want the dog, what happens then is they dump the dog and it ends up in a shelter or rescue MAYBE finding a new home. Will you be responsible enough to take back any and all dogs created by you no matter what the reason is that the dog is no longer wanted or will you take back any and all dogs regardless of age? Will you make sure that any and all offspring of your dog will not reproduce? Will you make sure there are no health issues by studing genetics and testing any dogs used for breeding? These are some of the things responsible breeders do. How responsible will you be?
If you love dogs so much why not donate some time to a shelter in your area or why not foster for Cocker rescue (I am sure that will be an eye opener for you) rescues are always in need of foster homes while they try to find homes for the dogs. Plus you can help to rehabilitate some of the dogs that were not socialized, trained or loved. That is what loving dogs is about not creating pups for profit.

Don't know what your question was. Sounds like you love dogs. If you have the knowledge to breed her well, give her special needs your full attention, know how to take care of the pups and have placements for the pups: go for it.

If you just want the experience of having pups just once with your nice cocker, that is okay too. Just make sure that none of the pups ends up at an animal shelter. Start looking for good families to adopt a pup soon as she has them or even before.

I've raised dogs before and can tell you it is a great experience. It does cost alot of money so you won't get rich. The cocker pups will also need to have their dew claws and tails docked at a very young age. Consider this along with the extra food and vaccinations. Consult with your veterinarian before breeding her. He will check her health out and can help you. Make sure she is up to date on her shots too. If you know all this and are ready for the extra work, go for it. Enjoy.

Here is the problem, you love your dog, but you aren't familiar with breeding, its problems, the responsibility and costs of raising a litter, the questions you must ask a potential buyer, the problems if they pups turn out to have health problems and you have to pay for care or take back the pups.
You are, understandably focused on how wonderful your dog is, but that's got nothing to do with your dogs pups. Do you understand the risk of losing your precious girl if she has a difficult delivery or pregnancy. Dogs do die, are you willing to risk it? Having raised several litters of dogs over the years, I can tell you that cleaning, feeding and caring for litters isn't what I would call lightening up my day, maybe pooping on my day would be more accurate.
There is so much more to consider when you have a special dog like yours, taking chances with the sort of infections and bleeding that can occur during a pregnancy isn't for the faint of heart. If you love your dog as much as I'm sure you do, get her spayed so she doesn't come down with a uterine infection, which is very common, and enjoy her in good health for many years to come, she won't miss having puppies because she will have a loving mommy of her very own.
In case you are wondering, I took those chance twenty years ago, worked closely with a vet, and another professional, reputable breeder, and I also showed in obedience.
I got my knowledge first then did everything I was supposed to. Even back then I knew not to take chances and do my homework. Oh, and the people who swore they wanted dogs before she was bred, turned out to not be able to take one after, so please have a plan B.

It could be because there are a lot of money craving catastrophe causers asking dumb questions on these boards

I don't actually know the situation or question you're referring to, so I won't pass comment on that. But I will tell you, most of the regular posters on this board have become sick and cynical by the amount of awful people asking awful questions - hence they tend to be a bit hasty, and sometimes jump all over people who don't necessarily deserve it.

Don't blame the answerers, blame the bozos who made them that way. If you know in your heart you're doing nothing wrong, don't take offense, just ignore it.

Everyone has an opinion and you're bound to find someone with a not too pleasing answer to a question. I've found there are people out there who give you a thumbs down for god only knows what reason. I think you have to take what information you find valuable and discard the rest and try not to take it personally. It's easy for people on here to be judgemental and say things they wouldn't otherwise say to your face, the internet provides a good place to hide your face. Don't feel you have to justify yourself to others when asking for advice, just try to articulate your question so that others can't take what you're asking out of context. The internet is devoid of emotion so things people say can be taken as nasty when it fact it wasn't written that way.

Having more dogs in the world might make your day lighter but you have to remember there are a lot of unwanted dogs in shelters being euthanaised every day because of people with good intentions like yourself. It might be better to save some dogs from the pound and find them homes rather than possibly contributing to a current problem.

Just my two cents worth.

Don't worry about it ...I have come to learn when people aren't copying and pasting their answer because they really don't have a clue on what they are talking about. Then there are the ones who will be the first to call you a back yard breeder and they don't even have a dog. Don't let people get you down , if you know what you are doing and doing it right then don't worry about what everyone says. I am a breeder but by all means mine don't look like what you see on TV. Mine are pets only. They never been shown, never won any award except for being cute. All my puppies are sold before I breed my dogs. I am in good standing with AKC.. all my dogs are DNA tested, Micro Chip. So as long as you know you are doing good for your dog. Then don't worry about what other people thinks. If I would have done that then the people who has my puppies wouldn't be calling me telling me what a joy they have been. You do what you want and do it right and don't worry about what other people say.

I guess I don't know your whole story, but I personally feel that breeding should be done by people who have done their research and know that they have a good dog. So many people breed dogs that have bad genetics, etc., and that is where there becomes a problem. If you are breeding to better the breed and you have homes for the puppies, then ok.

New to the game. What was the question? About Breeding? Everyone is entitled to their opinions. If you don't want it , don't ask. I have bought pure-bred dogs and I adopt from my local shelter. I adopted an AKC registered Rottweiler from my local shelter. LUV AT FIRST SIGHT!!! Do what you want! You will anyway! NOT JUDGING YOU, BY THE WAY!

Your right there are a ton of people that are against you breeding you dog, In some ways I can I see where there comming from, and you should too. They are more people breeding dogs that just want the moeny, so they are just making sure you are not one of those people.
If you wanna breed your dog and you know there are people that want one in your area, and love dogs and understand all the work that goes into breeding. and all the money you might loose.
