I've seen more and more food products from the supermarket that have sea salt in them, what is it exactly?

Salt processed from sea water. Sea water is salty, and it is allowed to dry. What is left is salt (sea salt) and the water evaporates.

Sea salt is a broad term that generally refers to unrefined salt derived directly from a living ocean or sea. It is harvested through channeling ocean water into large clay trays and allowing the sun and wind to evaporate it naturally. Manufacturers of sea salt typically do not refine sea salt as much as other kinds of salt, so it still contains traces of other minerals, including iron, magnesium, calcium, potassium, manganese, zinc and iodine. Proponents of sea salt rave about its bright, pure, clean flavor, and about the subtleties lent to it by these other trace minerals. Some of the most common sources for sea salt include the Mediterranean Sea, the North Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean (particularly in France, on the coast of Brittany). Sea salt is thought to be healthier and more flavorful that traditional table salt. Available in coarse, fine & extra fine grain size.
I hope this was helpful,Good Luck!!! :)

Sea salt comes from water in the ocean eroding surrounding rock formations. As a result, the ocean is filled with salt and other minerals. To obtain it, sea water is collected and evaporated, leaving the salt behind. Sea salt is good for you, I hear.

Guess what, all salt comes from the sea. Where it is mined once was a prehistoric sea. Morton, Leslie and other brands are gotten from evaporated sea water. I believe when it is called "sea salt" it is natural whereas "table salt" contains additives such as calcium silicate, dextrose and potassium iodide. Thus iodized salt.

Sea salt comes from the salty minerals left over from evaporated ocean water. It can also be called mineral salt- as it contains chloride, sodium, sulfate, magnesium, calcium, and potassium. These minerals make sea salt healthier then normal table salt(sodium/chloride).
