A 3-month old baby smiles and laughs by understood properties of its muscles and nervous systems, or as understood by human behavior. And, overall, babies come from people. God requirement in this scenario: zero.
A beautiful sunset is caused by the Earth spinning on its axis, causing the sun to travel throug the atmosphere at a longer angle, thus changing the appearance to other colors due to the scattering of shorter wavelengths of light. Beauty is a subjective property ascribed by the human mind. God requirement in this scenario: zero.
A chance to be on this earth is irrelevant. There is no known other earth to be born on. And, should I have been born to some alien species, I would not really be me. God requirement in this scenario: zero.
I do not see beautiful, new days every day. Especially considering that today is a Monday (the worst work day) and there is a lot of clouds and rain due to that nor'easter that's reaching hundreds of miles away to my house, some are rather dreary. And, some people have absolutely terrible days...an example would be Friday, where I saw no less than 5 accidents (papers reported 2 fatalities, one of which I saw first hand) on a mere 40 mile car trip down a relatively-unbusy highway. So, it's not all happy everyday. God requirment for good days, and bad days, too: zero.
How can I not believe in god? The same way I don't believe in Russell's teacup or the FSM. No reason to believe it's there.

When I see a beautiful sunset, I don't see some bearded old Authority Figure, I see a beautiful sunset.
Beautiful sunsets and babies' smiles might be a good argument that the Universe itself is divine in a pantheistic sort of way, but I see no connection whatever to some anthropomophic man-made god.

When I see a 3 month old baby smile and laugh I see both sides of the coin, just like I do everything else: i.e. cute baby but another human being which perceives something that is currently amusing it and serving it's sense of self-cherishment as it's developed to this point. A "beautiful sunset" to me is pretty but also sad, as a product of environmental pollution of the atmosphere, and this "chance to be on this earth" isn't that HOT considering there's so much unkind speech, arrogant behavior, hypocrisy and hate which takes lives every day based on the adult version of the 3 mo kid serving his/her own ego and sense of self-cherishment.
Perceptions... perceptions...

Maybe because none of those things have anything to do with a deity existing or not. It's life and nature. I think it's great that some people have such faith if they so choose but if you are to go down this road (the one where things around us are proof of a god existing) then one could just as easily respond with- how can you believe in God when you see the poverty in the world, a child dying from hunger every five minutes etc etc... But I'm not going to be all negative so I'm just going to stop there and say that yes, I really do appreciate all those things, I just don't have to connect them with God...!

Unfortunately, there is a great deal of pain and suffering in the world, not to mention disease, murder, torture, poverty, rape, child abuse, droughts, earthquakes, floods, wars, hijackings, and many other unpleasant things. Now, given that these things exist, it follows either that (1) God cannot do anything about them, which means that God is not all powerful, or that (2) God does not mind that they exist, which means that either (a) God is not good or (b) these things are really good things in disguise. One further option is(3) God does not exist.
If these are the only options and if you believe that God exists and is good and all powerful, you will choose option (2b) and say that these things are really good things in disguise. Then again, your question was a little vague, and your examples don't really justify the existence of God. If there is one.

You are a romantic. That's not a bad thing.
As far as I am concerned, yes, all these things can be "explained" by science, but that doesn't make them any less wonderful. It is the way they make us feel that could be considered a miracle. Wonder is everywhere is nature. And just because someone doesn't believe that faeries live in the garden, that doesn't mean they don't exist.
"Magic" is what makes the world go around, metaphorically speaking.

Why would it make me believe in God?
I give thanks (in general) that I'm alive and here experiencing life.
When you see another female Jaguar kill a litter of 3 baby cubs from another Jaguar, is that God's touch?
When you see baby birds pushed off of a ledge by their parents to learn how to fly, only to fall to their death, is that God's touch?
When a forest fire kills countless plants and animals living in the area, is that God's touch?
When an earthquake destroys a city and kills thousands of people, is that God's touch?
For every stereotypically "beautiful" thing you point out, there are horrific tragedies and unexplicapble horrors that happen in nature.
The universe is wonderful and magnificent, it does not necessarily mean it was designed that way by a God.

I believe in God, I just don't believe in a conception of God. A better question is how can you believe in a God who orders that 3 month old smiling baby thrust threw with the sword, or ripped to pieces before it's parent's eyes? He even sends a bear to mull 42 children to death just for teasing a prophet. How can anyone believe in such a vile ruthless god?

Im an agnostic, but i know for sure there is no allpowerful god from all the bad stuff that happens. Look at africa and everything there and there is always the chance of a nuclear war. This is why i don't believe, i know others will have reasons for this, but i can't think of any that are just.

Its all relative in what you "believe" I'll also answer with a question....how can you believe in God when there are people suffering and dying from disease, famine, poverty. How can natural disasters harm, hurt, and cause so many people anguish? Etc Etc. Its just life, whether you believe or not. Make the most of it either way because it can be gone in an instant
