Actually you may face some discrimination but what you need to do is prove you are serious, reliable, and trustworthy. Take a babysitting course through the Red Cross or YMCA and have copies of your certificate. Get references from your family and friends. Babysit a relative or two if neccesary to get those references. Get a job as a camp counselor. Work for the YMCA at day camps. You are not allowed to sit for children of YMCA members, but the job experience will make you quite desireable to all parents.
Once you start leaving satisfied customers behind, you'll be on a roll. It is customary for the sitter to go to the child's house. You may have an easier time finding jobs involving older boys (ages 7 to 11 or so) and you're going to need your parents to be willing to talk to potential clients for reassurance that you're safe and reliable.

I had a 16 year old male babysit for me, when my boys were younger and they had more fun with him than any other sitter. I could trust him totally and wish that I would have found him sooner. He had to quit babysitting when it came time for baseball and basketball.
He came to our house to babysit, but you can work that out with whoever you're working for and with your parents. Do they want extra kids at your home? I would probably be easier to sit at their house.
Good Luck!

I don't think there will be a problem. If he is responsible...and a reference or two wouldn't hurt. Typically, the sitter goes to the house of the children, it's just easier...all of their "stuff" is there as well as their beds! But, if it is more convenient for the parents, they may drop the kids off at the sitters...its not completely unheard of.
Good luck!

Parents may be relunctant to hire a teenage boy, so you may whant to see about family hiring you first so you can have refrences from other people's kids you watched and usually the babysitter will go to the house of the kids he/she is babysitting.

I "babysit" relatives and friends' kids during weekends, if needed. I'm adopted "Uncle" to all of them (the ones I'm related to are technically first cousins, once removed, but they-- and the unrelated ones-- call me "Uncle" anyway.
They come to my house and use sleeping bags on my living room floor.

get CPR adult and child certified, take a childcare class, and you watch children at their home not yours, my eldest boys are the only ones allowed to watch their 3 younger siblings, they are in demand in the neighborhood because of this and being CPR certified and they took a childcare course that gave them a certificate

Sorry, but there is no way I would hire a 16 year old to babysit, especially a male. I'm sure you have innocent intentions, but there are too many weirdo's out there who might molest a child. You are a victim of today's society.
