Thunder Bay has a long history in Canada. There were 2 towns Fort William and Port Aurthur. Both were settled by indians long before the white man gave them these names. They were the hub of the fur trade and the Hudson's Bay company because they linked the west with the great lakes and export to Europe. In 1970 the 2 joined into one city and it was renamed Thunder Bay. I don't think Thunder Bay is famous for anything else. It is just a regular northern Ontario city of friendly people. They do have Lakehead University and a lovely concert hall and a minor hockey team. The industries that support the city are Logging and mining

The percentage of african-canadians in Thunder Bay is quite small. Probably less than 500. Check out www.thunderbay.ca , it is very thorough. Under 'community profile' they have a very detailed breakdown of the population of the city, as well as comparisons to other cities.

According to the 2001 Census, the last one with statistics released, Thunder Bay had 440 people who identified themselves as Blacks out of a population on 120,370 people. I would guess that within that 440, there are just as many from Jamaica and South Africa, etc. Origin as there are of African-American origin. Unless you really meant African-Canadian?

Hey :) I live right near that area. I have to tell you that there isn't a huge amount of african americans here, but there are some. Please do not be discouraged, everyone here is so nice and accepting of everyone. It is definitely a beautiful area.
