I'm on a teacher salary and had to pay more then I thought and put me in a bind. What should I claim so I don't have to pay anything or very little at the end of the year???

The W-4s let you dial it up anyway you like.

More allowances means less withholding, so lower the number of allowances.

If you're down to 0 allowances, and/or you want an additional amount withheld every check, there's a place to write that in.

The IRS gives you a form to help work out the right number of allowances, but I find trial and error often works better.

Fill out the worksheets on page 2 of the Form W-4. This will help you ensure that you don't under or over pay during the year.
