What kind breed is it? Why did you choose this type of dog? And did you rescue it, or did you buy it from a breeder? I was just wondering.

I have rescued all of my animals from an animal shelter. I was just wondering what other people have done. All of mine are mixes, except one, I am not sure if she is an american pit bull terrier or a pit bull mix.

No I do not and they ONLY way I would is if I rescued it. I would not deliberately buy a designer dog and I would simply call it a mutt. I have no respect for those that breed designer dogs because it is solely for profit.

I definitely would not purchase one. I like having a general idea as to what my dog is going to grow up to be like. With designer breeds, there is not enough history there to develop a baseline or breed standard (oh wait, that's because they are not an actual breed).
I also look at the idea of designer dogs as detrimental to both breeds involved (as dog the breed clubs). The creation of these dog "hybrids" serves no purpose save for satisfying the niche of owners who believe they are buying hypoallergenic dogs (among other outlandish promises) or the same kind of dog that Jake Gyllenhaal has instead of overpriced mixed breeds. The breeds that we have today were created and refined to serve a purpose, even if it was companion to royalty.

I don't understand why people get upset over the so called designer dogs. It isn't the dog's fault and it really isn't the owner's fault. It started out as a fad and just grew to giant proportions.

It is like the ongoing war between people that will only take dogs from the humane society or a rescue place. And then you have the people that will only buy pure bred dogs. I have had both and I honestly would not do another rescue. I want certain things and the only way you get that is pay for it.

I have two pure bred Maltese. They are wonderful. They are everything the breed says they should be and more. I have experienced too many surprises in the past by adopting a dog. But we are all different.

Well I don't know if my dog would be considered a designer dog breed. But I have a pug and he is considered a toy breed. We actually didn't choose to have a pug. We had been searching for a dog for almost a year. First in shelters. We then saw a newspaper advertisement offering a free pug. When we called the pug already had been given away but the breeder had puppies for sale. We went to just take a look at them. And of course we fell in love with our puppy. So we did buy him from a breeder but we got him for a wonderful price.

Ya, I just got my first puppy, she's a mutt! I'm not sure what she's mixed with, but she looks like she a little Greman Shepherd in her. I've never seen her parents, all I know is her mom died. Her name is Coco. Anyway if you want a mutt go get one at the shelter, I don't know what a designer dog is though, sorry.

PLEASE don't pay an outrageous ammount of money for a mutt. Go to your local shelter and pick out a puppy there...Any reputable breeder is not going ot mix one breed with another and then sell it for hundreds of dollars or more by putting a fancy name on it. These puppies dont come from breeders- they come from puppy mills. And chances are, you can find a little mixed puppy that you will fall in love with at a shelter.

No, I don't have a designer dog. I have a Basset Hound. My dog, and all the ones I've had in the past, came in a box that said "Free - Take One".
